1.4 Replace wing/door/bumper

Featured Replies

HELP!!

The missus had a scrape in her car yesterday-literally, drove car against a wall. Damage to the front bumper and wings and door. Chassis is fine thank goodness!!

Has anyone replaced these parts? Is it a bolt on job or does it require welding etc etc.

Any help would be much appreciated:)

Ought to be bolt-on parts thoroughout AFAIK, as long as the sills aren't damaged. Might be worth having the steering alignment checked, in case the impact put anything out of kilter...

Thanks for your help. Had time to look at the car and it looks like a 'manageable' weekend job.

Tying to source parts at the moment- anyone any suggestions where i might find the wings/door/bumper 1.4 classic mettalic red?

Breakers often advertise on Ebay (not quite sure how it fits in with bidding rules, but there you go!) No red ones on there today, though. There is a silver one that looks mint from the front, though. Often a respray's required anyway, especially with non-metallic colours as they tend to fade over time - so the fact that the parts aren't the right colour isn't necessarily an issue. Just search the Skoda section of ebay motors using "Fabia breaking"...

As I know nothing about cars, feel free to ignore. Just thinking that if the car was hit at the front corner, it might be worth checking that engine and bits and bobs haven't been affected (i.e. moved), ditto the anti roll bar and possibly the engine tray cover underneath. Also, that the headlight is still correctly aligned.

Re parts, you could perhaps ask at a local coachworks garage which does insurance repairs what they do with their writeoffs. As repair costs can be higher than car value, it seems more are being written off even though damage doesn't appear to be that extensive.

Another possibility might be to get a garage to quote for repairs and, assuming only panels need replacing, get them to do that but do the painting yourself?

Sympathies to the Missus - I hit a post at the side not realising that the car was wider lower down :o
