Xenon problem

Featured Replies

Not happy, I'm sure my car waits for me to spend my money on presents for it before deciding to go wrong and cost me more! :finger:

Last night I stopped for petrol after driving 40 miles or so (in the dark). When I turned my lights on afterwards, I noticed that one of them flashed a couple of times then settled down... hmm, not good I thought.

Today I have been out in bad weather so put them on, both came on no problems (I could see the beam on the garage wall), 20 minutes later I pulled up behind a car at some traffic lights and noticed that the offending unit was off :thumbdwn: I turned the lights off and back on again and they both came no problems.

I will check all connections but I'm guessing either the ballast or the bulb is on it's last legs - any thoughts? :( Bulbs are not too old so may (although I doubt it) be covered. Ballests are

Eek nightmare.

They do seem to do that though!! I'm sure it's that law of s*d again.

Figures crossed it's the bulb and you can sort it.

Cheers

had a simalar problem, after long drawn out problem chasing, ended up as connecton on passanger side light. remove allconections, spray with wd 40 and reconnect. good luck

If its flickering its more thank likely the ballast (or ignition unit) at fault as its not firing up the light properly.

Thanks for all your thoughts. The fault seems to have arisen since I changed the sidelight bulb (although it could be coincidence). I have double checked all connections and sprayed with WD40. It seemed to flicker again afterwards so I don't think it's that :( I'll try swapping the ballasts over...

Hi guys just found this thread, mine are doing the same thing, but what the hell is a ballast?

VRSPhil was it the ballast problem? I'm still using the original xenon bulbs after 140,000 miles, I guess they may need changing.

Had this on mine and it was the ignition unit...
