Mongrel past 40k miles

Featured Replies

Couldn't be bothered to take a photo of the clock as it was a pretty uninteresting shot of it at 47360. However, this minor looking milestone means much more to me as the dash which went in my car during the mongrelling read 7360 miles when first cranked up. :)

So it means my motor has now done 40,000 miles in around 20 months  - mostly trouble free, but mainly with a whole load of fun!

Well done on the 40k :)

Was thinking about your airbags - sorry to drag this up again but...

(this is not a comment on whether you should connect the airbags - as you say, it's your risk - but whether it's actually viable to reconnect them and clear the fault code)

Your concern about reconnecting the airbag is that, as you've changed the loom, something won't match up properly and the airbag may deploy while you're driving (good point  ).

Airbags have been around for a long time and the technology is pretty reliable and proven (otherwise we'd all know someone who'd had an airbag go off in their face).

Your engine management has detected that the airbag is unplugged and I assume that you can see the fault on VAG com.

Can you also see a fault coming on if you connect and disconnect the decelleration sensor unit which triggers the airbags?

If you can and plugging the sensor back in clears it - and if plugging in the airbags also clears that fault then I think that you're in the clear.

The sensor is a standalone unit and will either work or not. If it's not working it will be reported as such in the engine management and you'll see a fault code. Same with the airbags. If the loom was going to cause an issue I doubt that either the sensor or the 'bags would report themselves as OK.

Your risk either way, of course :P

40 000 miles in 20 months, good old Mongrel, my car has not even passed 30 000 miles in bout 40 months! least they were trouble free, im hoping for the same!
