Car under water re flood

Featured Replies

Friend's car, a little runabout, (and house) is flooded. They think that if water is up to car seats or above (which it is still) it's likely to be a right-off. Don't think they have gap cover. Any handy tips re assessment please. I guess there's like thousands of peeps in the same position though, so settlement offers are unlikely to be generous.

Clearly they are in the hands of assessors for both car and house.

If they get a bad offer from the car insurance, try claiming on the house insurance....

will it even be covered in the car insurance? don't most policies state "not including acts of god" which is where they class natural disasters like floods....

damn that slr camera washed away in the flood:rolleyes:

I am some miles distant from them, but asked the same question, re Acts of God. They are in Hull and as a lot of Hull is under water, there'll be a right outcry if someone somewhere doesn't take responsibility. Questions are being raised as to whether drains have been kept clear (seemingly they haven't according to some news reports), so don't know what will happen. My friend is still waiting for an assessor to arrive, as you can imagine with the number of houses and cars affected.

It's for sure that all insurance premiums wherever will increase very soon.

I wasn't too worried since they are not really near the river. Seemingly water just came up through the floorboards, drain grilles in the street blew out and they've been told to put sandbags in the loo to avoid effluent uprise. Not sure many peeps would have sandbags to hand. Wellies are not to be found, surprisingly enough. Worst of it is that the water isn't really draining. The pumping operations are only managing to keep it at the same level. Heavy rain expected on Saturday :(

Its pouring of rain up here right now and a stinking forecast for saturday..... Im ages north of the flooding areas though ,but areas of tweedmouth next to the river tweed are getting a bit nervous , and they are looking for a man's body who fell/jumped (possible suicide , although not 100% sure yet) into the river up Kelso way.

RE the cars , I suspect all that have had water ingress will be written off ( any guesses of how many that will be , 1000s? tens of 1000s??) They showed a BMW 5 series on that 'Autotrader' prog on Sky which had been in a river for 3 days , and it was written off , even though it looked okay on the outside....

a few years ago Moray was flooded and the ford garage in Elgin fas in the area flooded and the reports were that the entire stock in the showroom and yard were written off even if the flood waters only touched the brakes iirc

Any Veyron showrooms in Hull?

Any Veyron showrooms in Hull?

LOL Put it this way: I reckon any car owner will be glad if it hasn't been lowered ;)

My dad is an insurance assesor, and they have been told that all flood (ones that have sat in water, possibly not the case fo a car that has hydrauliked the engine, and not been left in the puddle) damged cars are cat B write offs. In other words they cant go back on the roads, but the parts can be sold, this is what the company he works for has done, it may not be the same for all of them though.
