Fabia Engine Oil Drain and Change

Featured Replies

Hello fellow fabia owners....New to this site, first posting.

My Comfort, 4 years old, and during service I asked if I could do any of the work myself to keep service costs down, like drain oil from engine and that sort of thing.

I was told that there is a switch or is it a sensor in the throat of the oil outlet that if oil drops below a certain point the switch/sensor kicks in and it has to be reset by service agent.

Fair enough, I like my car, don't want to damage it, and paid out for full service. I am told tonight that there are no switches or sensors and service indicator on mile-ometer can be reset by pressing trip counter when switching on ignition.

Who did I believe service agent or general well-wisher? I can't see any reason for either of them to make up something like this...

The service light is nothing to do with the engine and can be reset by yourself its in the owners manual.

Nothing to stop you servicing your car yourself.

Lummox, thank you. As the next service is a year away I can read some service manuals and find out what I can do for myself.

as for the service agent it makes sense he will =tell you that you cant do things making them out to be difficult. the more you do yourself the less he gets paid for.

The car is now 4-years and out of its three years warranty, so I didn't need to bother before that. At the time I thought with modern design of cars it must be something to do with car safety. As you say, it is obvious...

...thanks for your comments VRSpirit
