oil pressure gauge fitment

Featured Replies

I'm going to buy & fit an oil pressure gauge to my mk1 Octavia vRS. Can anyone tell me if I need to buy the sandwich plate for the oil pressure sensor? If I don't need the sandwich plate can anyone tell me what pitch thread the oil pressure sensor should be to fit?

I may be a KillJoy BUT:

the extra 'fitting' , 'pipe 'and 'gauge ', are all items that can leak or fracture with vibration from the engine , and could cause total engine failure ,whch would not have happened if they were not fitted!. (Retired Intrument Technician /Engineer).

Mind you I did use to fit them when I was younger!

sorry!!, the company from where I'm getting the gauges from have asked me to find the wrong info out. They want to know the thread pitch of the oil filter not the hole thread pitch for the sender. Can any wise owl help me out please?

The gauge I'm wanting to buy is the Prosport electrical oil pressure gauge. With it saying its electrical i'm assuming its an electrical sender to the gauge. This, I'm waiting for conformation from the company. Regarding the sandwich plate, If there is a way of not fitting one I wouldn't. Thats why i'm trying to find out before I jump in:rolleyes:

I have a sandwich plate on my motor for an oil pressure and oil temperature gauge, both work fine, and neither will cause 'a major engine failure'....as long as it's fitted properly!!!!

Electrical gauges will come with an electronic sender, not a physical oil line from the engine to the back of the gauge.

They are the most straight forward design you can get, it certainly beats trying to tap into any oil lines!!

A sandwich plate shouldnt really be required just for a gauge. If you do a search there is a thread on here showing you the blanking plug on the oil filter housing where a sender for a gauge can be plumbed in.

It may be electrical , but the 'sender' is still something extra screwed into the oil filter, or crankcase on older cars (oil pressure switch ) .I have had leaks where the metal seal to the plastic terminals has rusted away!! .
