My new Fabia

Featured Replies

Hey guys

Just thought I'd introduce myself on these fine forum pages. :D

I've been reading through them researching for a while now, and it's all come to great use.

I've just put the deposit down on a 54 plate VRS.

Black magic, 16,000 miles for reasonable money. Good a good trade in for our motor (Suzuki Wagon R Ltd Edition) too.

The dealer is gonna service it, two new front tyres, and new rear discs for us (they're a bit scored). Apart from that it's minted (owned by an old couple for taking the dogs on walks).

No knocking noises from the front end, or unruly engine sounds, and the turbo kicks in like a good'un from 1.6k.

Hope to get it in a week or so, looking right forward to it......

Kev.

Welcome.

Welcome Kev, sounds like a nice car :)

 Welcome to Briskoda. Enjoy your new motor!

Hope you enjoy it :)

Does it smell of dog though? Is the dealer sorting a decent interior valet out?

No, doesn't smell of dog, just a few hairs in the boot.

It's getting a full valet after it's been serviced this week.

It's mint apart from the rear discs which are getting changed by them. Got a free tank of deisel out of them too!

We have to change the bird's private plate over tho, so that'll take a few days to sort out aswell, maybe longer (I hope not).

Only thing I wasn't sure of is that it's not got ESP, but for 8900 I can live with that. Especially seeing as it's got a years warranty (6 months left, but theyre giving me a full year).

It's alot of money, but for the mileage and the service I got I'm cool with it.

Ozone will sort it out if you dare...... :)

Welcome to Briskoda.................Enjoy

Hello and welcome, let us know what you think when you get it.

Haveyou the option of geting another years warranty after this one runs out? Never regret getting mine but like everythintg if you don't need it I suppose it a very expesive option.

Welcome

I still like my fabia. It does have the odd gremlin or two, but I've come to like its quirks :D

If you're concerned about reliability, there are a few threads which cover common problems, but nothing too major to worry about. Considering the abuse mine gets from time to time and how reliable it has been (never broken down), I can't complain at all. Cracking motor and good fun with very good value for money on the economy side.

Certainly a lot more reliable than the Loan hornet I had which broke down 3 times in the 20 miles I had it  (I guess you're another biker too) -

Welcome to Briskoda.

I'm sure you'll find this site very useful, i know i have. :D

Alright Hornet , welcome to the forum! Where are you getting your motor , Chathams? I see they had a fair few Fabia and Octavia vRS' in their ad in last weeks Scotsman motoring supplement.

Yeah, getting it from Chathams in Edinburgh.

I was in looking around and they only had later VRS's at roughly

Hello Briskoda

I've been admiring this site for a while and thought I'd pipe up with a question, cause if you don't ask you don't get eh?

Collected my 07 Fabia vrs SE on Saturday and wanted to find out the best way to use the turbo on this car. I've used a petrol one on my Activa 2.0 TURBO and it feels like I'm using all it's got to offer but with the Fabia I can feel there's more to use - if only I knew how to use it effectively.

Any Advice?

With a diesel you get the most when driving in the area of medium to peak torque.

Peak torque will occur at fairly low revs on your fabia and continue throughout the mid range. You will soon start to learn at which engine speed you find things more comfortable.

I'll keep an eye out for you. ;)

Fancy the meet on Friday?? Link in my signature.

Hello and Welcome Hornet

Good to see another VRS North of the Border hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for the advice vrStu. I'll give it a go... where's the meet?

Can anyone tell me how much it'll cost to remap my Fabia vrs and also what risk there is with my warranty/insurance?

welcome to briskoda

regarding the remap there are many places you can get your car remapped but many use jabba sport

There are a great many places where you can have a remap done, it's a purely subjective issue.

The warranty would be affected, any part that could have or could have been caused to fail by the remap will not be covered. The true effect of this depends on your dealer.

As for insurance, you should tell them really.

Perhaps we can have a chat tonight if you are around. You can always send me a PM if you want to arrange a pre meet and follow me up there. Click the link in my sig to see details of the meet.

Pompey - put your foot down ;)

hornet - welcome!

indeed, Hornet - have a neighbourly "Hello and welcome" from me too.

Well, picked up our VRS today, and frankly, I'm astonished. I've driven plenty of other TDi's before (company Vectra's and Astra's and such like), but the Fabia is miles better than those.

It feels quick even as standard, what must it be like with a remap (have hinted to a trip to Star Performance but the missus is having none of it).

Before I bought it, I only test drove it in Edinburgh, not exactly perfect for 'seeing what it can do'.

The best bit, its still shows 40mpg while sitting at 80mph!!! Ya Dancer!!!

Glad you like it, it's a very special little car.
