Overheating problem

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Right, I have a bit of a problem.

I bought a blaupunkt Los Angeles HU and put it in place of the cassette player on my 5 years old skoda Octavia. I used the VW adapter between what originally went to the stereo and the new stereo and, functionality wise, it works perfectly. No problems of shutting down when the key is removed, every thing is fine.

However, after about one hour of playing the HU is burning hot even in radio mode but it is even worse if you use CDs. Anyone could point me in teh ritght direction. Is it the cabling ? something I did wrong ? or is it the unit ?

I am a bit lost here. Thank you for your help

Are you running standard speakers? Is there anything connected to the Aux power out (eg amp, powered aerial etc.)? The HU will get warm to touch in normal use.

I think this is common amoungst all blaupunkt hu's. I have a woodstock dab52, it to gets really hot. Has not caused a problem though in 18 months of ownership.

Hi,

I am using the original speakers on the car. I have read that changing the speakers may reduce the heat of the unit.

I have also noticed that, when playing mp3, the unit tends to have problems reading the CD. Is it because it becomes too hot ?

I do not have any amp or anything else appart from the HU and the 6 original speakers

Reading CD's could be the brand of CDR, mine can be a bit dodgy using the cheap spindle discs but is fine with more expensive brands. I have sony component speakers up front and the original oem speakers in the rear.

when you fited your HU did you fit an adapter for the aerial, VAG cars send a +ve voltage down the aerial if i remember right. if you dont get the adapter then you can lose weaker FM and all MW/LW reception and sometimes the HU can get real hot. the adapters are only about
