Serial Killer :D

Featured Replies

No, I havnt been doing sordid stuff today

I have however been trying to get the Com1 port on one of my PC's to work, but still no luck.

Heres the problem,

I need to use the port to use hyperterminal, but when I tell it to open Com1 it says its already in use, and anyother programs are saying the same thing. Ive closed all non essential programs and its still in use. Ive even un installed my bluetooth device & software, and activesync for my pda but still goosed:( .

I can get into my device using another pc that I have so that aint the problem in this case.

So some program must be tieing up the port but I have no idea what it is.

BUT... If I put the system into standby it fails, due to a problem with the Com1 driver:rolleyes: . So Ive re installed the drivers and again no fix:( so now I am clueless.

Any ideas on what it could be that is causing it / how to fix it before I go and buy a PCI serial card?

Ta Techie Folk!

First one Ive already done:P , went into the BIOS and set the COM port to COM1 rather than auto.

The second one Ive again already tried, and get a message of "You are changing the com port while its in use etc", and what ever is using it seems to be adapting to the new com number because any number I choose, if changed it says the same message.

And the third divnt work either :(

Ive got around it by using another computer but that one is lower spec so my parents will whinge about it being slower etc
