I had this Superb for a month now and it's got more faults than I expected it to have from what others said about Skoda.

It's had a new egr valve, but I can still hear a bass boom noise coming from the car, stops if you pull the feed pipe off the valve.

The vibration feedback on the acc pedal when going over certain bumps, worse at low speed light acc believe it of not, I just cannot find what's causing it, I think it's the exhaust doing it, but all the mounts are there and correctly fitted.

The boot lid had a jammed strut when I viewed the car, dealer said they'd fix it, yeah right with some WD40, now it doesn't take the weight at all and slams shut and is leaking.

All in all things are failing that shouldn't at 50k and I'm beginning to suspect cheap component's are to blame.

Add to that a slight uneven idle when cold and you could say I'm starting to rue the day I switched from Vauxhall.

The car is more comfortable than the Vx, but the ride around the bends is 70's to say the least, and the quality of the car's parts is somewhat a lot less, even the door handles feel cheap compared with the feel and the action of the ones on a Vectra.

Better get her booked in, but if it don't get better, I'm wont be buying another Skoda.

Strong views mate and it's interesting to read this as 'touch wood' I have had little problems and currently on 130k.

I find it hard to believe that the Vectra had a better built interior than the Superb though.....

I have found that when changing gear at 40+, I get some feedback like a vibration through the clutch pedal, but it dosen't happen if I'm slowing down?

And I have this really annoying squeak that only seems to come after about 6pm, from somewhere behind the dash???

Other than that, nothing that concerns me :)

Don't forget the car is best part of a ton and a half!

agreed i don't push mine to the limit (its not that kind of car) but i don't hang around either, all things considered i think it handles pretty well.

The boot struts are a common well reported problem, but once cleaned & lubricated, work properly again - it looks like yours were left too long sticking, just get the dealer to replace them.

Had my Superb now for nearly 2 years and have clocked up 80k, have had no problems to date and am fully converted to Skoda. Have had many company cars to date from manufacturers such as Ford, Volvo and Renault, this is the first car that has only had to go back to the dealers for servicing, and no problems inbetween !!. Agree that the handling could be better but as a motorway cruiser it is first class, am now starting to look at my next company car and must admit I might not look at another Superb, but the Octavia vrs diesel instead, but will I miss all those toys ?

This is indeed a common problem across all the VAG range including Golf, Passat, Bora, Superb, etc....

Don't get me wrong here lads, I do like the car a lot, but this feedback issue is really concerning me, a mate told me he had the pedal box fall out on his Superb a while back, with the egr valve issue I'm a bit worried that they just cleaned my old one up, even though the job card said replace, that or it's hiding a more major fault, the strut is more of an annoyance tbh but even so I gave the dealer good dough for this car and I expected a new strut to have been fitted, it wasn't a local dealer I bought it from btw, passenger seat is bobbling on the edge already where ppl get in and out, it just strikes me as mutton dressed as lamb tbh, no scrub that, my mate has a Passat Highline and the leather is completely obliterated on the seat edge, so I guess VW uses the same stuff throughout.

Having purchased in excess of 50,000 vehicles - short and long term - thus far for various companies I have worked for, I can tell you quite catagorically, VW componants are far more robust than those from Ford, Vauxhall, Renault, Peugeot. I suspect that poor maintenance from the previous (company car?) driver is to blame...

....a slight uneven idle when cold and you could say I'm starting to rue the day I switched from Vauxhall.....

OK - what engine DOESN'T idle slightly unevenly when cold?

....the door handles feel cheap compared with the feel and the action of the ones on a Vectra.....

Can't see it myself - the quality of the material is far better than the GM product..

....the ride around the bends is 70's to say the least....

Compared to a Vectra.... or an Omega? - a far closer match, which drove like a bath full of water and fell to pieces? The superb handles far better that I expected from a large saloon and far, far better that the awful Omega 2.2 CDX I had the sad misfortune to have as a cocar for a few months, and better still than my Octy Mk1 1.6 Ambiente we had for four years and 50k prior to the Superb.

OK, I understand your frustration, but all cars give a level of that to most drivers that are critical - like most of the members here really. I think you need to get it to a good dealer to help get these aggravations corrected; the off centre wheel drove me insane on the Octy and on the Supurb before I rejected it, but it's been corrected. The clutch judders on a car with 14.5k on it, cold or warm - it needs to be corrected and it will be - really annoying though. The Radio is totally useless IMHO for a

I'll have to disagree about the Omega handling, I had both a V6 and a 4 pot model and both cornered better than the Superb does, though the Superb does smooth out the bumps better.

Vx do have their problems with certain things, but 20+ yrs of owning them still tells me they build a good car, everyone is having dual mass flywheel and dpf troubles right now, my mates about to reject a C5 because it's a fault novel.

I think my real problem here is my expectation may be too high, but I'm just a bit miffed that something I sought out so strongly and desired is playing me up, the supplying dealer is at fault with the strut's, the pedal feedback could be 10 different thing's, hopefully it will be easy to spot once on a ramp with a lamp, the egr valve fault I'm thinking could be the black pump unit alongside it as it looks like it contains a diaphram, and it's that kind of thud thud thud noise I'm getting, I did explain it to the tech guy at the time, but when the job was done someone else did it, hopefully once all this is rectified I will be able to post praise for the car.

Ok, an update, this noise i'm getting from the egr area, I've done a listen test on various bits, the egr and the plunger unit bolted to it are not making the noise, the 3 inch bore pipe that runs from the engine does have the sound in it, any ideas lads?

Interesting. What size wheels has your Superb got, Supurbia? I have 17" with low profile Conti's and it handles really well.... far better than that horrid Omega!

Thats a shame...it seems there are the odd few "duds" so to speak. Another wood toucher, but my 2.5 Comfort has been fantastic from day one.

The handling is a bit wallowy, but then again they were'nt meant to be driven round Silverstone!!

I cant fault any build quality on mine, in fact I've had a Fabia an Octavia 1 and 2 and a vRS Octavia, and the Superb is the best out of all of them.

The home I manage has a Zafira and is a 1.6 04 plate and fair enough its fairly reliable, but loves to drink oil, knocks like a Ford of a morning and most plastic trim is broken. However, I forgot my ashtray in the rear wont shut and the front one pops open when it bloody well feels like it!

As I say its a shame you feel this way as I would also...hence the reason I have a hate towards Kia, due to SWMBO's Rio being complete tosh.

I'm sure most of your issues can be easily rectified at the dealer..a decent one, and fairly easily...All the best

I'm on standard 16 alloys, I knew it wasn't a good cornering car before I bought it tbh, main reasons I went for it were the legroom in the back and the good reputation Skoda have gained, been looking on with interest for the best part of 3 yrs tbh and finally took the plunge, such was my faith I bought a Skoda with 50k on the clock, and normally I chop my cars in at 60k, that's how much faith I had in it.

Issue 1 the struts is a dealer issue more than anything, they were supposed to replace the jammed one, instead it's been lubed up and is now shot completely as is the other one I believe, there's no support for the boot at all.

Issue 2 the boomy noise that is in the pipe from the egr valve to the charcol unit in the NS wing, at least I think it's a charcol unit anyway, taking the thin pipe off stops it, I've had a screwdriver to my ear and cannot hear it in the valve, only in the hose/pipe that runs across the rear of the engine and to the the NS wing, this noise defo has a rubber origin sound to it.

Issue 3 the resonance felt through the pedals, wont do it all the time, only over certain bump/ruts, like someone tapping the bottom of your foot, I swear it's a transfer of some sort like something hitting the bulkhead and then coming through the acc pedal, I can't feel any slack in the pedals, and the exhaust seems to be tight enough.

I think I'm being critical here because the last two issues make the car sound and feel like an old Cortina on it's last legs, not what I expect nearly 10k to buy tbh.

I'm not trying to convert anyone to Vx either, Vx's you either love or hate, I've owned something like 10 of them, most as cabs, and they stand up, might have some minus point's I'll admit but overall Skoda was the only marque that was gonna drag me off of them.

The Superb is a ****** fine car, it's comfortable, well equiped, and a nice drive (when it's right) I still get badge snobs in who just will not let themselves go and say, wow what a nice car mate, added to the near on 30mpg 75/25 urban/mixed I get from it being an auto diesel that isn't a slug and you could say teether's aside I will be glad I bought it.

Been in for repairs today, got the mechanic to drive it and he acknowledges there is something wrong at the pedal, they've been all through the mechanicals and there's nothing showing up there, the boot struts are on order and will be done soon, thinking this could be related to the pedal problem, vibration travelling due to the shot struts, and the last issue is going to be addressed with a new solinoid valve, so it's fingers crossed, dealer is being prompt and helpful, so I guess you can't ask much more.
