Power Steering Pump y reg 8v Fabia Help Please!

Featured Replies

Hi Everybody...

I'm really in need of some advice please ... my power steering pump has gone, dealers quote

I suppose it depends if you can find out how old the one from the breaker's is. I'm guessing it'll have come from a car that was accident damaged (but not at the front), so you could well end up with a pump that's only a year or two old. Should be fine for quite a while, if that's the case...

Thanks that's a good thought ... silly me never thought they would come from crashes .. thought it would be from a car that died of old age!

Hi I have the same problem.

I have gone the dealer route as I have spoken to them very nicely and got a bit of discount. quoted

Steve, just a question what age model and milage is your car?

mine is a 1.4 MPI 2000 W 42,500 miles

hi

mine is 1.4 MPI 2001 Y 33,000 miles... are the pumps really specific to each car?

Groan...

yep they are, you can find out what one you have, call the dealer speak to parts give them your chasis number and ask what pump is fitted to your car.

it will be 6Q0 423 155 xx last two figures are going to be specific to your car.

blimey i cant belive yours has gone with 33K on the clock.

makes me think to get rid of the car once its sorted out, cant keep having big bills only after a few thousand miles.

Just has my pump replaced on X reg Fabia 57k at Saunders Abbot dealers in Croydon.

Blimey it's so expensive... I decided to try fitting second hand from breakers

Btw, Where do u fill the power Steering oil? I cant seem to find it anywhere in my car its not working either and im tryin to check if the oil level is low or somethin

the fluid filler is under the battery, what a stupid place hey!

I saw that and didnt find anything written on it that indicates its for the power steering oil.. seriously stupid spot!!

I could find out how much my local scrappy wants for the power steering pumps in the 2 fabias they have? I suspect around

They said if the oil is empty as its a sealed unit the pump is likely to be caput too.

How is the pump sealed?

I think theres some kind of a sensor that when the oil level goes down to a low level the power steering pump will stop working... what happened in my car is that it stopped working.. thought its the pump passed out so didnt bother to check on the oil leven coz its located somewhere stupid really.. drove it like this for 3 weeks... today thought i'd try n fill it up with oil to see if something will change... 1/2 a liter of oil >> steering light like anything again :D

My pump went after 15000 miles!!! Only two years old so tg got it fixed under warranty. I would have died if i had to pay these prices. I only bought it in Feb. It was in a crash so maybe that had something to do with it.
