I've just bought a 2.0 TDI L&K (and very happy with it), it's got maxidot and the audience stereo (all as standard, as you well know). In the maxidot menu, the top level menu only displays MFD and Setup, in pictures that I've seen on here other things are listed, like Audio, Nav and Phone. I haven't got Nav or Phone fitted but I just wondered why the Audio selection isn't listed ? Also is there an amp for the audience stereo and is it fitted as standard on the L&K ? Your advice would be greatly appreciated

For the amp question, how many speakers do you have in each front door.

3 = external amp fitted,

2 = no external amp.

I have an audience HU but no external amp.

All I can see is a small speaker by the door mirrors and the one fitted to the door panel by the pocket

If you have three, you will have the one by the mirror, another one down by the door pocket by the drivers seat, and another one mounted towards the front about half way up the door.

If you only have the two, then sorry but you don't have the speaker/amp upgrade.

With the maxidot selections you need to have them fitted for it to work, i.e phone kit for the phone option, etc.

For the audio the system needs to be on before it shows up on the maxidot display. With FM radio it shows the station name, with MW and CD (even MP3 cd's) it just shows the track number.

If this is not happening then you need to take it bac to the dealers to see if something is up.

Ah right, the penny has dropped ! Many thanks guys. Must admit the dealer didn't even mention a stereo upgrade, other than sat nav of course. Does the amp make alot of difference and can it be fitted as an after thought if so ?

i think they stopped offering the speaker/amp upgrade, it would be a pig to do afterwards as there is some different wiring. it would work out cheaper to get a set of aftermarket speakers and amp and get it done proffesionally.

Thanks Roo, just had a look on skoda's site, they don't offer it at all, like you said. Must admit I'm quite happy with the stereo, can't see me changing it really. Thanks for your help Roo, much appreciated

The Skoda brochure says the L&K has 12 speakers, but my doors only have 2 grills each. How can this be?

For 12 speakers you must have 3 speakers in each door, if you only have 2 then you obviously only have the standard 8 speaker setup without the external amp.

The 12 speaker setup being standard may have been introduced for MY2008 models, and may not apply to cars which are older than this. MY2008 have been in production for a month or 2 now.

Isn't there a compatability issue with the 12 speaker system and the MFD2 sat nav?

If so then I am in deep ka ka as I have an MFD2 ready to fit in my imminent L&K

That makes sense, I didn't know if the lower grill was hiding 2 smaller speakers, one for low and one for mid range. Either way I can't remember/find where I read about there being 12 speakers in the new L&K with the Audience HU. Oh well never mind.

I hired an Opel Astra in Munich, last week, and it had virtually all the toys, unlike UK versions.

But mine is and it looks the same as described. I broght the sound system when it was still offered in the UK as an option ( I suppose it can still be ordered as it's still avaliable on the continent)

Reading the Skoda website, the sound system is not std anyway, just the audience radio:

Mine appears to have 8 speakers, 4 x 20 watt + 4 x 35 watt.

Thats the same as my L&K, Botham, so not sure whether is was an option, I never thought to ask when I ordered mine :(

I don't think there was an option. The only options UK Skoda offer are elec s/r, front parking sensors and sat nav.

Yeah totally agree with you, couldn't be happier with it other than the fact the dealer set the car up for 10,000 miles servicing and the service book code is set for variable as I requested ! Waiting for them to call me back

That's way too technical for me How do I check that? I haven't yet learnt how to set the clock, which should have been done with the pdi, but someone at Marlborough Skoda knows how to tick boxes, without doing what it says!

LOL botham, I felt like that when I got mine from Marlborough back in April.

Had mega issues with the rear electric windows (post on here somewhere).

Just had an email from Skoda UK saying that the 12 speaker system is not an option (well in this country anyway)
