Towing with a 1.4TDI (75bhp)

Featured Replies

Wife has a Bohemia Estate 1.4TDI (75bhp).

We are looking at using this to tow a trailer tent.

Just looking for others views and experiences of using this as a towing vehicle?

Good:thumbup: and Bad:thumbdwn: experiences please!!

I reckon it would be just fine for a small trailer. Its a lovely torquey little engine. :)

I tow a 5' x 3' camping trailer with a 1.4TDI (80bhp) and there is no problem. I always thought the 75bhp was the best option for the car but Skoda changed it to 70bhp & 80bhp for marketing purposes - you'll have no trouble.

Out of interest I have the Skoda detachable tow bar - it's brilliant. Expensive but brilliant!

All the best

Thanks for the replies so far:thumbup:

I haven't as yet even fitted the tow bar, just checking my options out for this. (Any suggestions Worcestershire area appreciated!)

Hi,

I've a Witter towbar and reckon it's worth any little extra you pay. Make sure the audible warnings include one for reversing not just indicators.

I've a 75 bhp 1.4 Tdi and often tow a trailer with building materials. Supposed to be 600Kg load, but sometimes generous loaders have put in over a tonne. No problems with either pulling or brakes.

Have fun

FWIW I'm getting a PCT one fitted to my 1.9 TDI estate next week, with dual electrics (planning on towing a caravan) for

Oh, should add local dealer quoted

My 100bhp TDI towed this.

Just watch out for the 50kg nose weight.

What sort of loaded weight was that out of interest and how did you find it handled? Am aware of 50Kg nose weight as it does limit the caravan choice.

Unlaiden weight was 918kg max tow of the Fabia was 1000kg that gave 82kg spare for bits and bobs, Car towed really well.

Well that's good to hear as I'm looking at caravans in the 800-850 kg range.:) Mind you from a lot of reaction to caravans and towing here don't think I'd better put a briskoda sticker in the back window
