Rear screen glass

Featured Replies

Could someone please confirm that the rear screen on the Octavia II is laminated glass. I think I have delamination there as well as on the front.

I always though the rear had to be delaminated for safety. ie the Fire Brigade can easily smash to get access or put a fire out within the Car. Away to the dealers now so will ask.

I believe the rear screen is just normal toughened glass, as per the side windows.

Thanks Manny,

I would have thought so too, but there is a milky band along part of the bottom edge that looks suspiciously like delimamination. If the glass is toughened then it must be the seal between glass and frame that has broken down. I would like to be fore-armed before I approach the dealer or he will try to fob me off. (Mine is the 2005 VIN on a 2007 car  )

Well after some scum smashed every window in my vRS, except the windscreen, I can confirm the rear screen fell into little pieces like the side windows.

The centre punch is quite a nasty piece of kit on windows....

I have now taken another very close look.

On my Octavia II Elegance estate the rear screen is laminated glass. Two sheets of 2mm with an interlayer.

Thanks for the comments.

Have a look at the manufactures info on the screen. It will be printed or engraved and will be something like:

- Splintex (manufacturer Name)

- E11 (E mark/country)

- Laminated/toughened (glass type)
