Electromagnetic Steering

Featured Replies

Do you guys know if a fabia 1.4 classic W reg march 2000 will have an electromagnetic steering system.

I presume in simple terms that means an electric pump.

The reason is if so then behind the pump there is an earth cable and this can corrode leading to the power steering cutting out and apparently this cable doesn't show up on the diagnostics so will not report a fault.

So if my car does have this steering system it could be the answer to my mystery problem.

Yes The Fabia has an electric pump , but it still uses some hydraulic assistance also (hence the fluid) , electro-hydraulic could be the term?

Even old Fabias or did the pump just come in after a certain year.

All Fabias have electro-hydraulic PAS. :)

And yes the earth cable is a fairly common fault. Secures just up on the chasiss leg, you can see it though the fog light grill surround

Bugger there not having it they say it can't be the earth cable as it has nothing to do with the Power steering so wouldn't cause a fault with it and all it could be is the pump, sensor or steering rack.

More developments

I have rung my regular back street garage and mentioned about the earth cable to him he said he will check it for me tomorrow.

He asked is the cable fastned to the chasis (which I pressume is what Lummox means) or does it have many seperate wires coming from it I think he meant wipers, powersteering etc

Does that make sense?

Anyway prob have to pay a bit for it to be checked and also asked him to check the front suspension and ARB just as I know it's a common problem but at least I get piece of mind.
