strange noise!

Featured Replies

well its had several looks from skoda to another independant garage to what is wrong with my car...thing is it pulls fine in every gear! skoda said i might be looking at a new gearbox.... but i dont understand that!

if the gearbox is working fine i shouldnt need much to do to it! you can hear it spin or rotate when im stood outside the car, it settles sometimes but i think my 3 trips to london in less than 2 weeks didnt help! but its being checked again on monday been told its ok to drive just a bit of a downer really...if its a massive bill im gonna have to take the car off the road til i can afford to get it all sorted (everythings due this month tax, just payed for the mot, insurance oh dear no good when your skint!:o )

on the other hand (for people who knew about my unfair dismisal with Shell..they payed me for my wages and i got a meeting with my area manager on monday so going to see what else i can get still very hard trying to find a job!) but my car passed its MOT with flying colours! haha:)

i know it's not much help.... but if you do get a new gearbox, i will take you old broken one off your hands mate.... rare as hen's teeth they are!!!

yeah i had my mot done at Skoda, they didnt say much other than it sounds like you need a new box:confused:

TBH i expect they will sell it on exchange basis anyway so they will sent your old box back for a surcharge

Is it just me that cant find any sort of description of the noise in Leon's post ?

FYI - Funny noises from the gearbox on the Z were the first signs of an un-happy relationship with Nissan's warranty dept ;)

it's the front bearing that's noisy on mine!! has been since the day it rolled off the forecourt

its 1st and 2nd thats the worst i try to change out of those gears as quick as possible! sounds like a train chugging along, or a tractor! makes the noise in neutral but as soon as the clutch is pushed in it stops!

the noise stops because the gearbox has stopped rotating ,

as Tom said probably the bearing , will it not be cheaper to have the bearing replaced , the must be a gearbox recon centre near to you
