vrs ,17's and lowered 40mm?

Featured Replies

hi there,

what the norm with 17 in wheels and lowering on a fabia vrs, is 40mm less too much?

and what type of springs seem to tickle most folks fancy?

here a pic of my car now.

If you're going for 40mm, you might want to invest in the sump guard. Most folks seem to go for the Eibach springs which drop the car 25mm IIRC (as the standard vRS springs make it 15mm lower than a standard non-vRS Fabia already).

Chris

40mm will cause you issues if you aren't carefull.

Lowered on the Eibachs that Chris mentions is enough.

So are the Eibachs's 25mm drop from the 15mm or from the normal Fabia rideheight?

What other suspension options are availiable?

From what I've read it seems Eibachs and Koni Dampers are the popular choice as the Eibach dampers seem stupdily expensive....

The vRS is 15mm lower than a standard Fabia. The Eibach springs drop it a further 25mm so a total drop of 40mm compared to a standard non-vRS Fabia.

Eibach dampers work well, but the new Koni FSDs are the current flavour of the month. Their price makes the Eibach dampers look like a bargain though ;)

Chris

Hmmm ok then. I guess the reason they are so expensive is that there can't be a huge demand for modified parts for the vRS... at least in comparison to something like an Astra SRi, Zetec S etc....

The reason they are so expensive is because they are good and fairly new. It's a new technology.

I have eibachs on my car with standard dampers and 17's on it. (pics on members cars if you want to check the ride height) Think it is not low enough for my personal taste, dont get me wrong i dont want to start opscuring the top of the wheel with the arch but lower would look better.

Have done a lot of research re the sump guard, called a few performance garages etc. Seems to be an issue for people who drive too quickly over bumps and lumps in the road. Obviously dont try to drive over any obviously too high areas e.g. pavements.

Stronger sump guard would be preferable but the ones mentioned on this site were a one off custom build.

coilovers?

just got told the other day that my car had been running 70mm down on standard!!!

On 18" wheels, i did get a bit of rubbing on full lock and over big bumps though!

Needless to say it's now been raised and still looks good at 40mm drop

The FSDs appear to drop it VERY slighly more - I replaced my Eibach shockers with the Koni FSDs after 60k miles on them, mainly as I dont like taking chances with bad dampers.

The Eibachs are not bad at all, they do give a very firm ride though.

Do you notice any problems with hitting the sump guard at 40mm drop? Also do 18s destroy the ride quality??

Cheers

not done so as yet, it did have a few scratches on it from when it was dropped 70mm.

I've got the alloy sump guard though so i'm not too concerned:)

18's seem fine but then the ones i've got are light weight

im on 17's with KW coilovers and i have issues with every speed bump. must be down about 40mm. good handling and not too hard though. compared to the teeth shattering coilovers on the evo.

I called Jabba sport to find out if Luke (lowered approx 60-70mm) had any issues with his sump guard. They said not one scrape! Just drives carefully over lunmps and bumps. The ride height looks spot on as well!

Bo11ox!!

60-70mm  25mm is bad enough on the vRS!!!

it's hard enough keeping it scratch free at 25mm drop and impossible at 50+mm

hey guys dont shoot the messenger!!! i have eibachs and 25 mm drop and nothing really comes close to my sump guard. Cant speak for any lower cars personally.
