Over heating??

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Hope you don't mind me joining up and jumping straight in with a question??

I have an M reg Favorit that I am driving to Prague next month as part of a charity banger rally!! (All good fun, hope the weather is a little nicer in mainland europe than here!!)

Anyway she passed her MOT today with no problems, (Yay!!), but they did say while she was idling she over heated.

Now I am pretty sue ts just cos she hsn't been used that much recently, (Dry stored in a barn for about 4 weeks!!), but am concenred abou this as driving accross the alps in here in about 5 weeks!!

Anyone any ideas of anyhting that might help? I haven't yet been able to lay my hands ona haynes so am going to try and get one soon...but in the mean time...any clues??? (Also if anyone has an old haynes lying about that wouldn't mind donating it to charity for nothing or a samll cost that would be great!! Cheeky I know!!)

Thanks in advance

Em

how badly does it overheat??

all the time or just when been sat idling for ages??

Actually, did it overheat or just get hot enough for the fan to cut in? Cos the latter is normal behaviour.

As a general suggestion, I'd change the oil, plugs, leads and filters, and if I wasn't sure about it, coolant, before a trip like this in a car this old.

have you tried the normals , thermostat, stuck or defective, a blockage, water pump, the water level daft as it sounds, esp if its been standing a bit, even the bottom of the radiator can block up if left for long enough, or an air lock if you have filled it up a quick or bypassed the heater, just a few things i have had on cars with water problems, good luck and welcome by the way to briskoda,
