vRS fuel consumption

Featured Replies

Hi all

Just had 30K/3 year service, and oddly enough the mpg has improved markedly, especially around town. Used to get 35 ish on the 3 mile drive to work, but now it reckons 42.

I'm sure I'm driving the same, if I go really easy I can get an indicated 48 !!

As they didn't even change the air filter, and no specific faults were fixed I'm surprised at the change.

Any ideas ?

(Not that I'm complaining, you understand - just puzzled)

I know what u mean Ricko,

I used to have a pd100 before and that was amazing at fuel consumption.

Whatever they did to the car please tell me cos mine is not soo clever.

But, I would take the readings with a pinch of salt tbh.

Looking in Autodata Software; The 30k service involves the following:

Vehicle Fully Raised:

Engine Oil leaks - Check/Report

Engine Oil - Drain/Refill

Engine Oil Filer - Replace

Vehicle Half Raised:

Front Brake pads - Check/Report

Rear Brake pads - Check/Report

Front Brake discs - Check/Report

Rear Brake discs - Check/Report

Brake linings through inspection hole -Check/Report

Under bonnet operations:

Diesel fuel filter - Drain

Service interval indicator - Reset

It may be that a problem which was listed by a fault code was repaired (a few members here have reported a notable difference in fuel consumption from changing the air filter/glow plugs)

Look on your job sheet from the dealers and it will list the items that were inspected/changed...

well if they drained the fuel filter would it be possible that there might of been abit of dirt in the filter causing low mpg?

Unlisted service item

'Re-calibrate  ' mileage computer ;)

Know what you mean - I bike it sometimes but I often have to travel off site ...

Still at 39p/mile there's a bit of profit in it at this mpg
