Which chip/remap ?

Featured Replies

been reading a few threads about chipping the vRS but a bit confused as to what to go for, so from experience whats the best to go for in terms of performance.

car is currently 100% standard at the moment.

i'm assuming filter and exhaust change would be best done first to get the most from a chip.

i was looking at star's chip's which offer good power gains but also spoke to a guy about angel tuning who seemed almost half the price of star.

also for upping the power will the OEM clutch be able to handle it, i know a lot of people uprate their clutches but is it really neccesary?

It's all down to personal choice really.

There are loads of mappers about (although admittedly not so many up here). :)

I went with Angel Tuning a couple of years back firstly on my own Golf PD130 and then I was so impressed with that I also got SWMBO's Fabia PD100 done as well.

If you decide to use Angel Tuning, Paul who will do the job for you really knows his stuff.

They are well priced & will come to your house or workplace to do the job for you. I've had no clutch issues at all or any related issues for that matter on either vehicle since re-mapping & yes, it would be better to do any filter & exhaust changes first if that's what you're wanting to do.

Really, there's a fair number of people now doing this sort of thing some have more agressive maps than others resulting in clutch slipping issues, some cost more than others, some do only generic maps while others offer custom maps as well. Some will come to your house or work to do the job some won't. I guess you need to weigh it all up and then you pays your money & takes your choice !:D

I also have an angel tuning map, and will vouch for them... they don't go all out for massive power figures, just to sell the maps, they just do it well, and keep your cars reliability...

for examply my engine will map to 190bhp, but they wont do it, because it will eat my standard clutch... they reccomend 170 on my car, and this has so far kept the reliability with no problems... and decent price for a mobile service. They will also return it to standard when required...(
