W8 interior light wiring

Featured Replies

As the title suggests, I need some info on where to obtain a switched 12v supply to power the W8 unit LED's and backlighting when the sidelights and/or the headlights are on, I've removed the light switch and there are at least half a dozen wires to it and it's practically impossible to test for a supply as the connector is tiny and inaccessible when connected to the switch.

Does anyone know which wire will be suitable? failing that, is there another relatively simple way to obtain the switched supply?

Thanks

Tried that but the Octavia II light switch is different to that and too small to test for a 12v feed :(

Thanks anyway :)

is there anything of use on Octavia-vrs.com ?

It doesnt quite fit in the headlining due to the sunglasses holder, the original unit has a top mounted plug and the W8 has a rear facing plug so it needs a little "adjustment"

Stu, do you have any particular recommendation for the extra wire to the W8 unit?

Does the light switch send a 12v signal to the control unit or is it an open/closed circuit affair?

I don't want to hook up to the wrong cable leading to a light puff of smoke from behind the dash!

Is there an immediate problem going onto terminal 10? does that wire illuminate the switch LED's when the ignition is on or when the lights themselves are turned on?

Either way it makes sense to connect to there does it not?

It looks to me that T10b/10 is a 12 supply from the control unit to the Light Swtch. Look at the diode direction.

Yep - just looked it up.

It is output 58d which is Illumination of switches and dash panel and is dimmable.

That seems to be just the ticket wouldn't you think?

Yeah I saw the diode and presumed that wire was powering the LED's

That's where I'll connect it tomorrow after modding the unit to fit in the roof lining.

Thanks again

Yo - sorry for stepping into this thread - I face the light unit not fitting in due to the backwards mounted plug hitting against the sun glass holder....

Do you remember what changes you made to the plug so it would fit? I am a little discouraged now after having finally found a W8 light from a Superb...

Also - I have so far tested the adaptor cable without tapping into the light switch as I haven't made a final installation yet. Both reading lights are always on. Would this fix itself once I tap into the light switch?

Instructional thread I made should apply to you.
