Will these Dynaudio speakers go in my Fab SE?

Featured Replies

Looking at the following Dynaudio 3 way system. I'm not an expert but reading the thread where they are for sale they appear to be the dogs. As I'm currently in the process of collecting a new setup (HU, sub, amp, dab tuner and bits up to now) I'm tempted by the 'alleged' quality of these.

""For sale due to change of plans and stupidly expensive upgrade

1" silk tweet (mb100 IIRC)

3" soft dome mids

6.5" 160gt mids (very shallow, neodium mags I think)

3-way passive x/o X360

This is a lot of kit, very similar to the system 360, but with a smaller 6.5" woofer, not the 7 that comes with the kit (drivers were bought seperately).""

I just wondered if they will fit in my Fabia. Would there be anywhere for the 3"mids?

Quickly please as a sale is imminent and I'm first reserve!

Cheers.

Derek

There isnt anywhere as such for the mids..

the 6.5" speakers would fit, but it does depend how deep they are.. you may have to create a spacer for them

They are great, however they will need custom builds, go speak to a good audio installer!

It says 'very shallow' in the blurb so?

I'm more bothered about the mids, tho. Don't want to (can't!) do any hacking. Gotta feelin the installation cost is gonna be prohibitive.

Never mind. Think I'll lewt someone else have 'em.

I've got 13cm infinity kappa front door speakers - went for those as the same size as the stock woofer, so fitted well - Made two rings out of MDF - job done. :)

I've fitted Boston Acoustic components in the front of mine . Didn't think they were going to fit easily so I bought two custom made footwell pods off someone on here and also the adaptors from Car Audio Direct - The UK's leading car audio and stereo resource.. However I didn't need either.

All my friend and I did was to cut out the origional mid range speaker by using a stanley knife and cutting round the rubber surround. The speaker was then ripped out leaving the black cylinder still there. The new mids were attached into the by using some 'L' shaped clips and screwed into place. It looked like there was a small amount of space left behind the mid for a deeper fitting speaker.

The only problem with this was that the bottom of the door card was hitting the bottom fo the speaker surround. So we used a longer screw and a bolt on the bottom of the speaker to secure it, and to push the door card out very slightly.

Hope that helps!

Asked my installer today and he said it's perfectly do-able but would be costly. He also said my amp would not be good enough to power them (JBL GTO 755.6) so I left them. I was tempted when I called iceclearout on ebay to ask about some infinity's that someone on talkaudio had bought for

If I was you I'd avoid the InPhase brand totally. They're sold by Car Audio Centre who in my experience (with the newer staff in the Manchester branch) are pathetic, cheating, haven't got a clue, and just out to make a sale. The guys at Talkaudio are a good bunch, they know their stuff and with the combined number of users on there they've used pretty much all components out there. Take their advice, but more importantly, try the speakers in a premises before you buy them. What sounds good to one person may not be to the taste of someone else.

I rang CAC a while ago asking if they had 3-way Focals in (around

Thanks irf. I'm tempted by those Diamonds now above!! I've mailed iceclearout to try and cancel. I'll try phoning tomorrow or early monday. So if I can cancel what do you think of those diamonds?

If iceclearout do not cancel your order you still have 14 days in which to return the goods and get a refund (distant selling regs). Never heard the Diamonds but the spec looks very good. Just make sure you have a fairly powerful amp to power them with, as crossovers eat power!

One more thing, the installation of the speakers will make more difference to the sound than pretty much anythign else. Do a search for sound deadening in the door panels to improve midbass and make sure the mid range speaker is sealed onto the surface so the front and back are essentially separate air spaces.

Thought Diamond Audio went bust?

If I recall correctly, TomVRS on here used to run these Car Audio Direct - The UK's leading car audio and stereo resource. Rainbow SLC265 Kick - Rainbow RAI-SLC265K and I was looking to buy the same ones too. They might cost a little more, but seeing as how your going to be taking the door cards off just the once it may be worth it? They are not that deep and if you use the method I suggested by cutting the origional speaker out instea dof using an adaptor then they wil definately fit. Not sure about the tweeter though. My Boston Acoustic tweeters clipped straight into the oe location, how lucky was that!

I've mailed the seller asking him to explain one or two things:

Hi mate. I was thinking about buying these but there is a lot of discussion on a forum I go on as to whether or not they are genuine Diamond speakers Whos bought the diamond audio m661 6.5" Components from e-bay ? - Talk Audio Forums

People wonder:

1.why they are sooooo cheap

2.Why location on listing says sheffield yet they are delivered from malaysia

3.why serial numbers are cut off the box

4.why this model is still available new when they have been discontinued for a couple of years.

Can you please reassure me as I would love to have these o my car if they are the real thig.

Thanks so much.

Derek

He He! Wonder if i'll hear anything.

Hmmm. Got this email in response. What do you think?

Hi Derek, the sound quality of the speaker would speak for itself :) I say it's genuine, if not you may return it for a refund fair enough? Thanks Rob (jdm-trade).

He hasn't answered any of your questions though, seems a little strange

I think I'l leave them. I'd always be looking at them wondering. I've actually just got email from iceclearout confirming cancellation of order, so at least that went well. So I'm back in the market now. Do you know anything about these Irf? JBL C508 GTi - 13cm 500W 2-way component speakers on eBay Component Speakers Sets, Speakers, In-Car Entertainment GPS, Cars, Parts Vehicles (item 330151675158 end time 09-Aug-07 07:02:16 BST)

Seen prices from

Firstly they are only 5.25", whereas the Furby takes 6.5" mids in the doors. Secondly I've never heard them but I've used the cheaper JBL's in the past and they were good for the money. For that amount I'd maybe try the Rainbows though, they seem to get good reviews on Talkaudio forum

I would agree with irf about the rainbow speakers(Car Audio Direct - The UK's leading car audio and stereo resource. Rainbow SLC265 Kick - Rainbow RAI-SLC265K

I have fitted lots of sets to rainbow speakers to cars and have always been impressed i have a set of the 6.5" cs profi phase plugs(Car Audio Direct - The UK's leading car audio and stereo resource. Rainbow CS265 Profi Phase - Rainbow RAI-CS265PP) to fit to mine i had them in my last car and they are excellent .Try them you WONT be disapointed as long as they are fitted well.

The standard Furby speakers are 13cm but if you read my earlier reply and cut the speaker out but leave the plastic housing in place, a set of 6.5" components will go straight in. Just use some 'L' shaped clips to secure the speaker to the casing. No need for adaptors!

Thanks Irf, but will 13cm fit straight in without ant cutting or adaptors? I'm not really bothered which size as long as they go in ok.

Hmm. I wish!

Try and go for 6.5 inch speakers, you need to have reallly slim ones tho, as there isnt much depth, make sure you amplify them as well, otherwise you will hardly notice a differnce

When you take the door card off, the speaker that is currently there is around 13cm/5.25". However it is mounted in a black cylindrical housing. WHat I am suggesting is that you cut the speaker out by cutting the foam surround with a stanley knife and keep the black cylindrical housing there. Then a 6.5" speaker can fit straight onto this. The 3 or 4 screw holes you get with the speaker can be used in conjunction with some metal 'L' brackets you'll probably get with the new speakers.

If you went for 5.25" speakers then they would sit too loose in the cylindrical housing. Even if you completely removed this housing, the metal cut-out in the door is too big for a 5.25" speaker if I recall correctly.
