185/60 14 vs 165/70 14 on 1.2 classic

I have ruled out trying to get a set of alloys for the Furby; not because they I don't want them, but more that I realise I'll get ****ed off shelling out for bloody expensive tyres all the time.

A little more grip wouldn't go amiss though :)

What I'd not realised is that my car runs on 5.0Jx14 rims with 165 tyres, but the comfort/ambiente equivalent runs on 6.0Jx14 rims with the wider 185 tyres.

By the looks of things, the 185/60 14 tyres are actually cheaper than the smaller but I guess less common 165/70 14s, and my local breaker has a set of five brand new unused 6.0Jx14 Fabia rims at sensible money, so I'm tempted to upgrade to the larger rims when my current tyres wear out.

Has anyone changed from one to the other and noticed a difference? And anyone know if the hubcap fixings are the same on the different rims? By the looks of things in the accessory brochure, they're different. At least the wheel bolts should be the same

I went from the 165 steelies on my Fabia Classic to a set of 14" elegance alloys look nicer and seem to handle a little better, tyres are only

The new steels from the scrapper are

Only difference is less rubber in contact with the ground, so less grip on corners, but better economy. :) Depends what you're after. I have a pair of 165/70 14s to put on the back of mine when racing up the 1/4 mile. ;)

With tyres? If so not too bad seems quite reasonable, just seems a little pointless TBH spending nearly

But (and the big but for me) is that they cost more than

So VRS alloys should bring out your cars' true sporting potential with better acceleration and improved handling :)

 Trying to imagine my 1.4 8v estate as sporting ;)
