Real Mk1 Octavias

Right .. a bit of update me thinks ...

Firstly huge thanks to Daveyvrs & Simon for spending yesterday evening & all day working on the blue saloon.

The good news is ....

the gear change & clutch action is loads better after the clutch was replaced. The boot lid now also closes & re-opens as it should .

The bad news is ...

during a little test drive...

the fuel pump decided that pumping fuel is too much like hard work.

The good news is ... that got changed for a brand spanking new fuel pump from the spares cupboard.

The bad news is ....

The radiator has decided that hot water should be placed on the floor. The spare isn't any better either .... oh flip

The good news is ...

There's nearly 5 days to sort the radiator before the classic rally

it's booked to take part in

and the bad news is ... I'm working all of them

Oh well ..... there's always the red combi ....

aaah ... that is having a new window made & 6 windows still need refitting & there's no rubbers for 2 of those & it needs the brakes sorting again & there's a long long list of cosmetic things too ...

oh & an mot is needed & a tax disc after that

Still, there's always hope !!!

yours optimistically ... Darren

Good luck mate!! Sounds like you have your work cut out.

Regarding Mk 1 Octavias, does anyone know whats happened to 1482D, a grey one that featured in a magazine article some years ago now, mid-90's I think, owned by Albert Boyden from E.Sussex at the time. Its apparently still taxed until end July but have seen or heard nothing about it in years!

Be interesting to find out where it is and what its like now.

I know Brian Moore's old blue one, BAW183B has ended up with Skoda UK and is now a yellow/cream colour.

GR, sounds like a case for some fast radiator drying out and re-brazing (and it's the first time in 20 years I've even had the opportunity to say that!)

good stuff... love seeing old school cool like that :)

Well I rang a local radiator chap today, explained my plight & what the rad' is off ...

"Really, a 1960s Octavia!!!, I remember them when they were new!

Well I'm off today but you could bring it round to my house &

I'll take to the workshop first thing tomorrow!"

Fingers crossed!

I bought a brochure this weekend for a 1960s Octavia :)

When I get it I'll scan the pages :D

It's a slippery slope Rob ....

First it's a brochure, then it's a car.

Still, if you're keen enough to ship one car around the world,

a second one wouldn't be any harder.

I'll let you know if I see any for sale next week in CZ

Well in the end we had to go in a modern car on the SALT2 rally.

The organisers did a fantastic job & it was an excellent weekend, even the flooding couldn't dampen our spirits....

SALT3 should be happening next year & hopefully I'll be spoilt for choice with 2 old timers to choose between.

Well a little more progress to report.

Had a little shopping trip to the Felicia coupe show in CZ

Spent several CZK1000s on bits & pieces to get / keep these 2 relics on the road.

The blue one is back in action, after much assistance from Daveyvrs & Simon. All fuel & water hoses & clips have been replaced. The dynamo & carb have been swapped for overhauled units, the distributor, spark plugs etc replaced with new items. Exhaust has been repaired.

The car has done about 30 miles of test running around some quiet local lanes, it seems much much happier. Still needs a new set of radial tyres & a battery, currently got a loaner from one of Simon's cars.

Well, a little bit more to report....

The plastic card treated the blue car to a custom made stainless steel exhaust today.

It looks & sounds rather nice, work done with minimal of fuss and sensible cost at

Rebel Powerpipes in Barton on Humber.

It's now at a former Skoda dealer, waiting for MOT tester to come back from his holidays.

I think he'll be pleasantly surprised when he opens his workshop door on Monday!!

Think he'll be scouring the car park for a modern day octavia? :D

Boohoo ... it failed ... blooming headlamp bulb gone on the blink.

However, after some serious fiddling about to get the old headlamp out,

a new bulb was put in and it passed!!!!

Hooorah!!

Hopefully it'll get out and about a bit more next year,

as it only covered 791 miles since the last MOT.

My Photobucket account seems to be unwilling to accept new uploads, so I've now got a Flickr account ...

Here's the impressive Rebel Powerpipes guys in action

For those that may have wondered, whatever happened to that Estelle ...

erm, well a long story ... anyway it's been sat in someone else's garden

for nearly the last three years & no real progress has been made.

Yesterday ... the grim reaper was summoned,

with a view to taking her to the big Skoda parts bin in the sky.

(look away now if you're a little squeamish)

One very sorry looking Estelle

Fear not dear Skoda friends ... as I didn't have the heart to weigh it in.

It's now sat indoors, waiting a full inspection by the Skoda surgeons.

Will the patient live?
