1.9TDI Won't start.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a X reg Fabia TDI with about 100k miles on the clock. Was running my errands today but when I tried to start the car trying to leave town it wouldn't start.

As I turned the key to the 3 rd position the console went funny (current tank's mileage disappered and clock was unreadable) and when continuing to the 4th stop (ignition) nothing happened or changed. As I brought the key back the console changed back to normal though the current mileage is back to 0.

The other half has the breakdown card so have to wait for her, not sure if there's anything i can do atm.

I like to state the obvious to stop people delving in too deep.

Does the car still have its original battery or have you had it replaced??

Relatively new, about 1.5years ago.

Like someone has said my first check would be the battery.

My second check would be the fuses, IIRC the dash pod has a separate fuse. It should be a minblade 5amp on the top or second row of the fuse box.

I have only ever seen the symtoms you are having when flashing a bosch ecu edc15v on say a golf 110tdi or 90bhp with immo2 dash pod. In order to access the ecu you have to remove the dash fuse as the immoboliser (sp) is built into the dash pod. when you do this the mileage (sp) shows a blank and non of the dash lights will iluminate. Also needs removing to Put the right * mileage on certain models but we wont go there.;)*in case your dash is not showing the correct mileage (sp) for the car ;)

Do any of your dash lights illuminate? symbol with a key?

Sounds like the battery to me. Had similar symptoms when the battery went in my '98 Polo.

Well.. recovery person came. Was the battery, but he had to let it charging for over 10mins before it would start (note I had only parked for 1 hour and not left lights/radio etc on). When that worked the powersteering conked out and it is now in the dealership... see what happens.

Nice one:thumbup:

I like being right for once!!
