Hello all from Octy enthusiast new to Briskoda but not to Skodas ('06 1.9 tdi pd following a '00 1.6 glxi). Is Halfords 5w40 diesel oil safe for the pd engine? I notice that the label has vw505.01 under the large oil title. On the back it states that the product 'conforms to vw505.01', but does not say that the oil actually fulfils 505.01. I'm asking because this stuff is on special offer in Dublin at the moment, but do not want false economy.

Yep, did a search, but no definitive agreement as to who supplies the oil for Halfords, or whether it actually fulfills 505.01. It probably does, but I'd like more than probability - unlike Carsberg, which I like enough already.

Yes, the wording on the Halfords oil could be better - in places, 'meets', 'suitable for' 'conforms to'

From the Thesaurus definitions above I would take it that the oil meets the specifications.

I bought 2 at that price anyway recently in the UK.

Ive used the halfords oil and found it to be ok
