New Car Engines

Featured Replies

Having never owned a brand new vehicle before, I wondered if anyone else had encountered this one.

Just taken delivery of brand new vRS Diesel . First day out after only doing seventy odd miles, started to smell what appeared to be burning oil

Pulled over, and deduced that it was coming from the engine bay (thought at first it could be coming from elsewhere other than from my car, as I was driving with the windows down ).

The smell was not that strong, you had to move about with head close to engine to pick it up, but it was coming from the engine bay.

I know new car engines are very tight, and do run quite hot (no high temp registering on instrument gauge either ), but I was wondering if this is the norm on brand new engines.

I suspect that it could possibly be a bit of oil may have been spilt on the engine and dripped down out of my sight prior to me taking delivery, or could I have a slight oil leak !

Regards,

Bob

ive had a few new cars over the last few years i had a few funny smells from other makes of new cars but not with the petrol vrs

some makes i got the odd funny smell from the exhaust system on new cars and had a smell from the engine on a new shogun turbo diesel it had gone after a week

i wouldnt worry to much if all your fluid levels and warning lights are ok

just make sure you run the engine tyres and break system in ive just gone past 5,000mls on the vrs and its now getting by the day have fun
