Front door speakers on my fabia

Featured Replies

I posted this in the wrong place last time so here it goes again.

Hey, so I got my first car, the Fabia 1.4 8v (00). Anyway I'm looking to replace the front doors speakers, got all the dimensions I need except the maximum mounting depth I have without making spacers, I don't want to do anything too complex at this point in time, so whats the max I have avaliable?

you should be able to buy spacers easily enough and they just bolt onto original locations. how much you looking at spending? have you updated your HU, and are you going to amplify them? as imo the 1st thing you should do to any car when upgrading the stereo is the HU as its the source of your music and will make the greatest improvement

yes you can buy spacers from ebay

HU?

I'm assuming thats head unit which I have upgraded. Unfortunatly soon after I did the classic mistake of damaging my front right speaker so I figured it was as good a time to replace them as ever.

I'm not looking to spend much over

if your not looking to amp them then look at these if your not going to amplify you need speakers that are designed to be run off of lower power so will sound better run off the hu.

or if your looking to amplify then these

Looks good. Is it worth buying spacers or making some myself? If I use spacers will the speakers still fit behind the original door panal?

Do a search on the forum. It's not always necessary to use spacers.

When I upgraded , I put a pair of Pioneer 170 cms in my Fabia front speakers , I used a spacer of 36 mm made up of two 18 mm deep MDF spacers on each side of the car. I got them ready made on Ebay.

If you remove the original skoda speaker which is pop riveted to a plastic purpose made spacer ,and fit a new speaker without a spacer , a gap of 45 mm is left between the front of the speaker ,and the inside face of the door card.

All speakers to work correctly need a baffle between the front of the cone ,and the rear of the cone to work correctly. In other words the sound pressure made from the front of the speaker ,must not mix with the sound being made from the rear of the speaker.

That is why speakers are in a box, or fitted to a baffle. (in this case the door card acts as the baffle ). As stated in my previous post ,that is why when I fitted larger 170 mm speakers ,I used two 18mm deep MDF rings. The door card slopes slightly in relation to the front of the two rings ,but only by about 5mm .

Sorry- I meant to add ,the fact (which has been mentioned many times before )that the speaker has also to be spaced forward to allow the rear magnet to clear a metal strut at the rear of the speaker space.
