Anyone know if it's possible to separate the gear **** from the gaiter?

I only want to do it if I can join them back up again easily enough with a cable tie or something. Has anyone tried?

IIRC it's just held on with a plastic clip - would recommend replacing it with a jubilee clip as it's less fragile and I don't think a cable tie would be strong enough.

It's easy, I've done it mine. There's a plastic collar that unclips. The jubilee clip rob mentions is more for holding the **** on the shaft not for holding the gaitor to the ****.
