I have an odd problem with my 02 Fabia 1.4 16V.

When the weather is warm and I have the air con on the idle often sticks at around 2000 rpm and takes a long time to come back down. If the air con is switched off whilst the engine is revving like this, the idle returns to normal straight away. There is also a whining noise whilst this is happening which sounds like a belt under load.

Could it be that the battery is getting tired and that the air con and fans are draining it which in turn is putting more load on the alternator?

Or could the whining be unrelated and the idle be down to a dodgy temperature sender?

Have I discovered a new and unique Fabia fault then?

No wonder the stealers couldn't find it...
