Car Upgrades (cheap)

Featured Replies

So I now have a fully working 16V 1.4 Fabia! (Garage finally fixed all engine management issues). Now I want to tastefully pimp it, and increase that 100bhp. What's the cheapest way?

Also - how much (approx is)

An alarm/or a Skoda fitted alarm system?

What are good Xenon headlights to use?

As I have a comort I have no heated seats? Would Skoda charge a bomb to put this in?

Thanks!!

I'd forget the Xenon idea first off. For it to be 100% legal you need washers, auto levellers and projector headlamps which will cost huge bucks. You can fit an aftermarket HID kit to your DE lamps but they wont pass MOT and will blind other road users.

Id start with a panel filter as the induction kits for the 1.4 16v engine are useless as the exhust manifold is directly below where the cone filter sits on these kits. (Good idea that one ) 50 quid

Then possibly look at a nice exhaust, something like a subtle supersprint system or a sebring. (300-400 squid)

I wouldnt bother with any hid kits they arnt legal and may dazzle oncomers.

I would go for a nice aftermarket alarm, something like a toad or clifford with remote locking would be nice ( 200-300 notes)

the seats will involve complex wiring to be fitted, two new switches for the dash. Would be a bit of a pain - doable, but I would DIY retrofit, not use Skoda. Don't bother with xenon. Find a good HID kit - but I'm happy with my lights. There are good bulbs you can fit which help a lot. Alarm is easy enough I reckon.

Tuning an N/A engine isn't really worthwhile as it's a big outlay for not much gain. The best way to improve the car's performance is to put it on a diet and strip out anything that isn't needed.

Plenty of aftermarket alarms to chose from, but not sure I'd bother - is your car really a target? :D

I think the law on Xenons has changed recently and you now need all the self-levelling and washing gubbins to make them legal. Better off just spending 30 quid on some uprated bulbs from Power Bulbs - autobulbs, autolamps, xenon headlights, car bulbs, headlight bulbs, osram silverstar, silver star, philips vision plus, philips blue vision, bluevision, imvho.

Heated seats will be a pain to retro fit. You can buy heated seat pads which lay on top of the seat and plug into the cigarette lighter which might be a more cost-effective option. Think they're around

some nice white 16" Oz super t's would look good

ITB's are a good way to go, or buy a cheap Eaton supercharger from eBay (taken from Mini Cooper S when it has a JCW kit fitted) - done on a Lupo with the same engine

What's an ITB? Or Eaton Supercharger?? I am a complete n00b! Okay Xenon's are out, maybe just somethin a little more....well powerful.

Is a panel filter easy to fit? Where can I buy them?

i have a 16V, Get some proper suspension and rims/tires.. get the bumper stripes color coded as they look ugly in black...

exhaust system.. (mine is custome made)

K&N Panel filter (got mine for about 30$ USD)

If you want it to sound better n have a better throttle response go for the VW Polo 1.4 16V 101 HP induction Kit from K&N, search the K&N website for it (about 150$ USD).. it'll perfectly fit the fabia.. Im thinkin about ordering one soon but u'll have to remove the engine cover to fit it which will make the engine bay look aweful wen u open the bonnet

Hey Fabia156 have you got any photos of your motor? :)

Panel filter and larger intake or sealed induction kit

Full exhaust system with sports manifold or de-cat manifold

Fast road cams

Throttle Bodies

Remap

Might see 130-140bhp

And a car that's still not that quick! ;)

Chris

You could put twin black strips running from the front to the back of the car down the middle? Not tasteful but will give you about 10bhp, then there is the briskoda sticker, bhp varies but on average about 15bhp................lol

And so what is the moral of the story?

And so what is the moral of the story?

That naturally aspirated cars are expensive to tune and you dont get alot of bhp per

I think you're saying the moral of the story is.....get a new car! :( Well I just got it dammit! I'm not super set on the idea - just asking the question really. Just wondered if a few squids could = more bhp. Wasn't thinking hundreds and hundreds! Thanks tho guys!

OK I'm an old fart, the first thing you should do is phone the insurance to see if you can afford the insurance hike for any mod you maybe thinking off.

I've heard crome door handles are a good first mod.:)

As others have said, lighten the car, do you need a spare wheel, back seats etc.
