Fitting Infinity 6500cs components

Featured Replies

Following on from the excellent stealth install step by step guide by Xavier, I thought I’d document my handiwork installing a set of Infinity 6500cs components (17cm woofer, 5cm tweeter and X-over module).

The tweeters are supplied with a fancy adjustable mounting system, but I wanted a stealth look. They will fit in the standard housings but the locking tags need to be trimmed off so out came the glue gun to fix the tweeters in place. I replaced the standard cables with longer 2 x 0.75mm2 OFC as shown (soldering iron job).

The magnets are deeper and much bigger than the standard speakers so a little trimming of the door panel is required – a junior hacksaw does the trick. The photo below shows where I made the cuts.

The cross-over module was held in place with more hot melt, but a bit of trial fitting was required to ensure the door card would fit. This is more important on the driver’s door as there is less space. I routed the input cable (2 x 2.5mm2 OFC) through the rubber ducting and into the car before finally securing the X-over in place.

I had previously done the standard 'remove the plastic film from behind the woofer' trick but I taped a piece of plastic sheet in place to prevent water splashing onto the speaker. This is what it looked like before fitting the door card.

The driver’s door is similar but the X-over module is moved due to the shape of the door panel – check the door card will fit before going too far.

The SQ improvement over the stock speakers was impressive, even from the word go. Now for the rear speakers, but that’s another story…..

Very good and informative post, well done.

Been thinking of doing the I.C.E soemtime soon and this will help no end.

Nice little guide their mate. Very helpfull indeed.

What do you think of the Infinity's. I've got a set of JBL GTO506ce 13cm components that I had from my clio. Might make these fit in the fabia.

Must start doing my ICE SOON!

John,

I've not had chance to compare them against others in car, but they were certainly the best sounding ones on Halford's "wall of fame" - not that I bought them there at their jumped up prices

Initially. I thought they were too bright but now they've bed in they're sounding much smoother. The X-over has extra -3dB terminal in you want a quieter tweeter - I stuck with the normal output.

One thing I have noticed is that the driver's door card will resonate with some music, so I can see some sound deadening material will be the order of the day.

I intend to be at the Briskoda meet (only as a spectator), so you are welcome to have a listen.

Think i might take you up on that offer thanks.

Been thinking about fitting my JBL's soon. At the moment think about having ago at some custom kickbuilds. Just trying to figure out if theirs enough room next to the Go pedal. This way I wouldn't have to sound proof the door.

Hmmmm, maybe one of u guys could help. Im ordering a pretty kicking system tommorw.... Infinity 13cm Kappa components, Apline amp, Pioneer 2000w sub and Rockford punch amp. A while back i checked on this forum to see what size the front speakers are and i was told 13cm. But i checked tonight and people are saying 16cm and that they are not deep enough for aftermarket speakers. So please could somebody help and tell me if they will fit or not. Oh, I have a Fabia :)

Cheers

where did you get the speaker (woofer) holder from and what is the model number

What is the difference between Infinity ref. 6500cs and Infinity ref. 655cs?

Thanks

Matty

They will sound twice as good if you decided to sounddeaden the doors. It will only cost you in the region of about

So Funkyjutel

What does one do with Aquaseal?

Thanks

Matty

Andre? What does this stuff look like? It reminds me of silicone sealant, but I'm sure you've not used that inside your doors! :P

Martin

Where did you put the mouse mats?

I have loads of old mouse mats! I will happily use them if I know how.

Thanks

Matty

That sounds very easy!

Thanks mate

I'll do that tonight - a great alternative use for old mouse mats!

Cheers

Matty

I managed to get the 3 torx screws out but couldn't "pop" any clips! I could just get about a 1 inch gap and I managed to slide 2 mats into each door one just back from the speaker and one immediately back from there. I had to put them in vertically so the total area covered is 25cm upwards and 40cm across. The sound is definitely cleaner just from this. I am amazed that it makes such a difference!

Many thanks for this tip.

Matty
