Could Having a flat battery cause the warning light to come on?

as the car im picking up had the light come on and as part of the deal he said he would find out what caused it and fix it. now he sais that there was no error code and reckons it was just because battery had been flat.

bit worried as i need to knwo the cars gonna be 100% good. now i can borrow a freinds code reader to make sure he hasnt just cut wires or something, but not a vag com. itll be booked into a garage asap to get a service and checkup done anyway but its more of a precautionary measure.

its the 1st time ive bought a car of this value and last time my dad got screwed over with a used car so bit wary.

cheers

I assume you mean the red battery symbol warning light?

If so this means the battery is not charging, so its a faulty alternator or broken belt etc

no engine warning light unfortunately.

Get him to take it into a Skoda dealer to get the light cleared before you accept the car. I would also want a guarantee on it not coming back on again in a reasonable time (try for 3 months).

if he wont agree to it, walk away - there are plenty of others about.

he has taken it to a skoda dealer and got it cleared off but doesn't know what code it was just said it had been cleared off. just checking if what he is saying seems accurate. i get a months warranty included but i also though that under European law you got 3months as standard now? is this true?

The engine management light should only come on if one or more of the sensors detects a fault with something related to the engine i.e. lambda sensor, crankshaft or camshaft sensor etc.

It should never come on just for the battery being flat as all the battery does is supply electrical power to the car itself.

I'd be very wary...

going to be taking error reader just incase. it came on when i put my foot down and the ASR was cutting in to stop the spinning and caused the car to shake a bit so wondering if that could of caused it as for some reason i seem to cause traction and stability systems to break and i did it to a few swift sports when ive driven them.

it will be going to APR in Brackely as soon as i can get it booked in for a checkup for my peace of mind.

problem is i currently have no car from friday night so no way of getting to work.

just ahd chat with mecahanic who used to work with the press engines on these and he said that if the bat has been low then a lot of the sensors can show errors as they dont like it. apparently its a VAG thing!
