used RS buying

Featured Replies

Hi!

After a bit of searching I may be close to my RS , however a few questions on the one in question.

The car is an ex VW car reg 09/01. with approx 10,000 on the clock. Rally red and very tidy. The dealer is offering a good P/EX on my 2000 (W) 2.0 SLX at

Some of the earlier RS's were supplied with 16 inch alloys (Freakcrab has one). The other differences are the interior trim on the A pillar and the headlining are light grey on the earlier car , on later cars these areas are black. Also cruise/reverse sensors/sunroof options were not availible at the time the early cars were sold. Apart from this , they are identical in spec.

As explain above (composing at the same time it seems), my RS currently has 16s on it (give me a couple of weeks and I'll sort that) but it was a very early car registered by Skoda UK in March 01.

I'd check the car has full UK spec and not irish spec. I believe the irish cars have AC and not Climate so that's probably the biggest giveaway.

The 16s have bugged me for the last year. They look sooo naff, especially if you should happen to see a 17" equipped RS.

:(

If you're planning on putting bigger aftermarket wheels on it or indeed if the 16" thing doesn't bother you as much as it does me, then it should be fine.

its almost definately a import check log book for first registration. bear in mind u can get an import for 13000 new from motorpoint or eurocars uk. there are some differences in spec as mentioned above.

It could be an import (as stated , check the V5) , or it could just be an early car with 16s , they do exist in UK spec , especially on X/Y plates.

Been for a test drive in the car this morning, The car was to full UK spec climate control etc, also with grey headlineing, The car was registered to VW as the first owner and can only assume it is not an import. also I'm not sure but wouldn't a main dealer not be selling an import?

As far as the car was concerned it drove well and seemed very sound.

Morgan

Mine is a 12/01 with 17's.

I know of a dealer who was selling an Irish import so it does happen. (they are not a current Skoda dealer)

Have taken your advice. Spoke directly to Skoda Uk just now. They confirm it was there own car and 100% UK spec.

I am pushing the dealer to supply 17" Rs wheels before I buy it so hopefully the only difference will be the headlining which I can live with . Have to wait and see what thet say.

Morgan.

Good luck with your (hopefully) future purchase , do let us know how you get on! Only thing is , the dealer may bualk at adding 17s for nothing , as in the price list they are

Out of interest, how much would you consider selling your 16" vRs alloys for?

I would consider buying if they are in perfect condition. :)

Sorry for hijacking the thread morgan..

The first RS's (200 red I think) to hit the dealers cars had 16" as you are aware, the next UK orders had 17", then a bit later 2002MY had a couple of other changes flick key, blue tinted side mirrors and retractable radio areial. Later in 2002 the RS's had the dark headlining.

Best of luck Morgan.

Mine has the light headlining to which i prefer as i found the black a bit Ozzy osbourne :D {doom & gloom}

My plan was:

-Fit the new ones (probably sometime next week).

-Take pictures of the old ones and put them up for offer on the for-sale here.

There two small marks on them: one line across a spoke and a small light scrape on another wheel (from those stupid metal things that stop you going the wrong way into a carpark). No kerbing or corrosion though.

Thanks, I'll keep my eyes open...

Guys

Good news, the dealer has agreed to put 17" wheels on the car, apparently they have some fitted to another car which they are going to swap. So if you don't ask you don't get.

They are Also fitting cruise control for
