VW 506.01 v 507.0 Lube Oil?

Featured Replies

Hello all. I have a 4 litre bottle of Castrol SLX II Longlife Oil that I use for top ups as req'd. It is 506.01 spec and I use it in my 07 Fabia VRs and my 05 Superb 2.5 TDi.

I've looked around for another 4 litres to buy but can't find it anymore. I can find Castrol Edge 0-30 but it isn't 506.01. It seems impossible to buy this oil anymore?

I can find 507 (and plenty of 505) is this OK or better? Thanks.

Sorry, I appear to have my answer. From-

Motor Oil and Lubricants Castrol UK and Ireland - Castrol EDGE 5W-30

CASTROL EDGE 5W-30 Replaces Castrol Formula SLX LongLife II Latest technology and specific formulation for modern Audi and VW engines.

NOTE- EDGE Diesel or EDGE 0-30 is NOT a replacement for SLX II!

This is way too complex an issue.

Castrol have kept the SLX range for service outlets, to the end use you get the Castrol Edge, it is the same stuff.

The one to go for is the Castrol Edge 5w-30, thats the one that meets the VW507.00 spec for the PD on variable service, also if you have a particulate filter too.

The Castrol Edge TD 0w-30 does not meet the correct specs.

just to be clear is that Castrol edge TD 5w-30 or the normal edge 5w-30? sorry but you dont mention turbo diesel in your reply.

Are you in the UK?

I am sure all we have here is the Edge 5w-30 or the Castrol Edge TD 0w-30, Edge TD 5w-40, Edge Sport 0w-40, Edge Sport 10w-60 and the Edge 10w-60.

Cheers

i am in the UK so i guess Edge 5w-30 meets 507.0 not edge TD. what about shell helix?

I have an 07 reg 1.9 TD diesel with variable servicing and no particulate filter and I had to top up my oil for the first time. Having looked in the manual it said to use VW506.01 Could I find such an oil anywhere? No.

I finally managed to get some sense out of service department at a local dealer and they say the Castrol Edge 5W-30 meets the requirement for VW507.00.

This is all very confusing for someone who is used to pouring almost any make of 10W-40 oil into my other car which is an R reg petrol engine non skoda

This forum was fairly helpful but a clear table showing engine model and suitable grades of oil would be really great.
