Bit random! Number plate bolts.

Featured Replies

After my rear number plate fell off I noticed that the dealer had just stuck it on with adhesive. This was because one of the threaded iserts for holding the rear plate on has half a bolt snapped in it! I'm in the process of drilling the remains out (drill is charging) and was wondering what thread these bolts were so I can go buy some new ones. I don't really want to wack massive self tappers down there if I can find the right thread that it's suposed to use.

Long shot I know, but anyone know!? Thanks.

The only ones Ive seen are those plastic universal ones from somewhere like Halfords?

I don't think they'll fit. I'm just interested in finding out what thread size the standard screw/bolt is so I can replace them. If not I guess I'll just have to ape with the self adhesive!

I just went to the local number plate place and he had a big bag of them - guess they are a fairly standard size. He also had a load of white and yellow washer / caps to suit front and rear plates.

Don't think he even bothered to charge me!

Sod it! I spent ages drilling the old one but didn't manage to get it all out. Just gone for more sticky pads!

It should stick okay this time though, I've taken the little dealership trim off of the bottom, this was stopping the plate from sitting flat against the boot and so only half the sticky strips were sticking.

My private plate was just stuck onto of the original plate by the dealer when i bought the car

I only just removed them last week stuck them back on for a cleaner look rather than bolts

Pretty much anything I've seen used either self-coloured plastic set screws, or a pair of self-tappers and self-coloured trim pieces..

no more nails on a roll and the buggers wont come off without a fight! Its good enough to old 50Kg allegedly ;)
