i have seen a couple of vrs with the centre air hole for the rad made bigger and the plate moved to the side.

How much work is involved for this i'm guseeing you have to cut into the bumper strength bar at the rear as well?

yep, there is the hulking great crash bar behind the reg plate part of the bumper. I have seen this whole bar removed before now, but your insurance might not like it because if you crash, or are crashed into the damage will be imense and could kill you. You could cut a piece out but the crash protection will be compromised.

Don't most of the cars with this mod actually have an FMIC which comes with a modified crash bar specifically designed for the purpose of replacing the OEM one.

I think it looks a bit crap anyway to be honest. If you have the big I/C then I can totally see the point in getting as much air in as possible, but it's certainly not something I would do for looks.

No need to do this to vent the rad - it really is just an FMIC venting thing, like what I've done with the fabia. My crashbar is still there although I took a chunk out of it and painted it matt black.

Mine is the yellow one featured in your "lets see some pictures" thread. I have cut the bumper bar in the middle only. Work involved with the bumper shell is minimal - sharp knife and steady hand is all you need to follow the existing contours of the moulding. But then you need to mesh the hole which is a bit more tricky if you want it to look neat. As for cutting the bumper rail - in my case this was done by hand with an hacksaw.

As for clever or not to remove crash protection - the outer sections are still attached to the chassis legs so a full on collision would do no more damage. However, I take your point that an offset collision probably would result in a more serious outcome. But hey I don't get in the car and drive with that in my mind!

Also done this to mine:cool: see Trax 07 pics mines the red one (Ou) did this to increase air flow as i have a Forge FMIC:D piece of cake to do as i also had to remove a mounting to enable a ic pipe to run through the bumper.... As im in the trade and my Brother in law runs a bodyshop we discussed the front end impact scenario and only if a car scored a direct hit on the removed piece end on then and only then would our safety be compromised....... with this i went ahead and did it bearing in mind 4 years ago i had a combined speed head on @ 90mph:mad:
