Im using a Talex Lite, which you can pick up dirt cheap @ about £60 IIRC.

Its spot on and does the job nicely. Its very similar to the Road Angel Compact but lacks a couple of the features, so the Lites bigger brother is probably better for you:

Talex | Speed Camera Detection System

Note, they can be found cheaper than on the Talex site if you do some looking around;)

I've got one. I've only ever used Road Angels so don't know how they compare to the other makes out there, but it does the job quite well. Always been spot on for me, including mobile sites. Although I have the laser attachment, I've never really used it.

I must admit, I'm tempted to try out a Talex next time round, as they seem to have some good rep. :)

Only reason for asking is that a relative is selling one v cheap (£20), but im tight as a ducks a*se.....

Well for £20 you mind as well go for it! Only catch is the updates aren't the cheapest. They charge £3.99 a month for regular updates which I think is a bit much.

How do the updates work with the Talex, Pembo? One off payment or monthly?

One off IIRC, but I dont bother with mine as all the scameras in my area have all shown up fine so theres no need for me too.

To update Talex Lite, an optional Subscription Kit can be purchased, this will include the USB cable, The software on CD ROM and a 1 or a 3 year subscription allowing you to update your Talex unit weekly.

Subscription Kit Pricing

1 Year Subscription Kit £34.99,

3 Year Subscription Kit £59.99

(on going subscription charges are £24.99 a year or £49.99 for 3 years)

Cheers Pembo!

i have a road angel that i need to get round to selling, they ok, but i just fancy a different unit now as when the renewal comes in next year it be a bit costly compared to ones that are just as good.

Ive got it, and its great, but shame that the lead has to go all the way from near my handbrake!

Does the trick anyway, so ill use it and see how i get on.

Just route it behind some of the dash, looks much nicer that way:thumbup:

Ill post some pics tomorrow of how Ive routed mine

I put mine in the right hand bottom corner of the windscreen and had the cable routed down the side of the dash and under the steering wheel. It was then routed under the center trim to the lighter socket. It's a nice neat solution that isn't permanent. Well... neat enough for me! :)

Damn you, you stole my method :P

Any chance of a pic PEMBO!

Cheers mate

I have my unit in the right hand bottom corner of my windscreen so have the cable going down the side of the dash, tucked behind the bonnet release then under my mat and into a dual adapter under the seat. That adapter then runs up nicely from the side of my seat and into the cigarette lighter socket.

Aye just took some mins ago... uploading them now;)

I removed the fuse box cover, and I removed some of the dash under the steering wheel.

I fed the cable from the cig lighter, thru the center console (just get your hand under it and push the cable up the gap between the console and the carpet), up and around the black plastic bit near where your left foot goes, then up under some of the dash that is under the steering wheel and behind the fuse box and up to the top of the dash near the window. Make sure its pulled tight tho under the steering wheel because you dont want it to obstruct the pedals or be visible ;)
