Does this sound reasonable?

Took my 1.8T Estate into dealer (Manchester) today after engine management light came on full time last week.

Stuck onto diagnostics - new turbo pipe- clip - cost inc labour + vat £280. I was gobsmacked. What do you think chaps?

NO it does not.

FFS or gobsmacked. Sounds like a right rip to me. How long did they take?

Would have been cheaper to join the AA and call them out!

I think you got properly stung - wasn't one of these was it :-

Hmm, appears I was right.

Have heard several stories about Bury vs Manchester service and attitudes.

I reckon you should question it too - can't harm and if you're defiant / adamant enough, mention you used them before at Bury but will not in future..........................

It just goes to prove that if you take your car to a dealer then you might aswell just pull your trousers down in reception and ask for for a damn good spanking!!! Or am I just letting my imagination go too far? :D

Just wait to see what they do with the feeler gauges  :thumbdwn:

Lol :D

I think you should take a close look at the invoice and see what you have been charged for.

Are there any expensive parts on there?

On the face of it, it does look like you have been excessively charged. How much time did they spend on the diagnosis?, as it's not just a case of plugging in and the car tells you what the cause of the problem is. What is their labour rate?

Further to this thread, the dreaded engine management warning light has come on again. I am thinking:-

1)The turbo pipe job not properly fixed or

2) A new problem

If I take it back to Horners Mcr on the assumption that it is connected with the earlier problem, and then discover it is not, I run the risk of excessive labour costs again.

Should I just book into Awesome GTi for a diagnostic check (£40 odd quid) and sod Horners in Manchester?

(If it is the original problem I would of course expect Horners Manchester to resolve at no cost to me.)

Ideas please?

take it too the dealers and tell them to dignos the problem for FREE as they clearly messed it up the first time and might have charged you for bits you didnt need to be charged for.

then if they say its something else, take it elsewhere

I'd put a £10 on the fault being 17705 and if they are guessing then they will be guessing for sometime...lol.

Plenty on here on that fault, do you have a print out?

In the end I took it to Awesome GTi- spent an hour and a half on it, couldnt find anything wrong, cleared the code, £60.

It's come back on again today !!!!

Back to Horners Mcr I feel - ask for free diagnostic check as clearly didnt find the fault first time.
