dont see TVP there. but no suprise about wiltshire, more than likely sat on the A303 and M4 bridges that have clocked up 95% of their tickets.

And the A36..... still, I suppose it's good to sit in the layby on a short stretch with a crawler lane, rather than a bit further down the road where all the accidents happen

Chris

and its not about making money either ;)

I don't see what the problem is, they're breaking the law ( I have 6pts) but if they caught me everytime I was above the limit I wouldn't get more than a few miles before I was banned.

Just drive along at the same speed as the other 100 cars in the outside lane passing the only lorry in 20 miles and see what the average speed is, only a very small percentage of offenders are caught. POSH gambling.

Come on, it's not like we don't know the limits.

:iagree:

If any of us break the speed limit and we are fully aware of doing so, we should be prepared to take the consequences on the chin, regardless of how covert the method of catching us was. If we are not fully aware of the speed we're doing . . . well, to be honest, I don't think such people should be driving - it takes a fraction of a second to check the speed you're doing.

I have to say; my previous car was a nissan micra (N-reg lol). At that time 80mph was fast and furious, all in one.

Today, when I do 80, I feel like the engine is ribbing me; goan, enjoy.

thing is i have learn to respect other road users. But is it not time we updated the speed restrictions?

Tut tut, don't you realise that speed kills?

Not impatience, inattention, ineptitude or being bloody stupid. No, Speed.

But is it not time we updated the speed restrictions?

It's a double edged sword - cars are now safer with better brakes, but there's a lot more cars on the road these days and I'm not sure drivers are getting better!

Chris

Perhaps if variable speed limits were used properly and enforced rigorously (on motorways at least) then at peak times we'd all trundle along at 40-60 but at three in the morning when there's no other bugger on the road you could legally do 80-90?

It'd have to be better than the M25 of course, the number of times I've been the only car for three miles late at night and the limit is stuck on 60.

I know many motoring organisations have called for this for a while, i beleive speed limits could be increased on motorways safely, maybe follow the germans (anyone who has been to germany can explain it better than me.

The company i work for has petitioned the government to increase lorry speeds from 40 to 50 on single lane roads and hgvs to 56mph on dual carriage ways (from 40 for hgv's) they beleive with better braking on hgv's this will help congestion and help cut down the idiots that try anything to get past lorries in a unsafe manner.

Has anyone in West Lon seen those new cams on a [ shaped silver post with 4 $2 diameter straight ahead, and 4 straight down cams?

Are these speed cams, or traffic monitoring?

where abouts are they?

Seen some on the A4 before the extended CC zone (round hammersmith IIRC), A316, A315 (from feltham towards the A316 Hamptons roundabout) to name a few.

Never been stationary to get a pic yet.

i have just been banned for being flashed by a speed camera it was 2 weeks untill my first 2 year probation was up and i was doing 36mph in a 30 and they banned me

Does that mean you have to resit your test? :(

Chris

Chris

it does mate am back to a learner got me license revoked have to get new provisional take theory and take test again and have you see the price these days its all a money making scheme has taught me a big lesson though just to take it easy so for anyone reading this who drives like a nutter slow down its not worth it i have had to learn the hard way

That's not good news, but good luck :D Some schemes offer you a safe-driving course or allow you to sign up to an advanced driving organisation in place of point and allow you to retain your licence. I personally think these tend to be more long fixes, but I guess they're clamping down on young drivers so it's zero tolerance.

Or just do it where you're not going to get caught ;)

Not sure if this is correct, but I've heard something about some 'green' charge being introduced soon into London, the greener the car, the less you pay. Not sure if thats correct, but its what I've heard.

Chris

i tryed that but the welsh constabulary wouldnt let me do driving courses or anything like that it was just a 3 points and £60 lol

So it was your second offence in 2 years??

Serves you right then fella, even though I do sympathise, as a motorist I'm glad I don't live in Wales!!!

gadgetman its not the one by the Shell Garage on the A4 is it?

Ifits this one then dont worry as its not issuing tickets, its on home office approval trials to see if it be of any good before it can actually be used for catching speeders.

Nope, not that one.

They did have another of those just after hammersmith flyover on the way into town, but it only there for a week. No Idea why.

The one's I'm on about are *similar* to the black ones they use in the CC zones, but I've seen them outside.

I'll have to trundle down to Hanworth and take a pic.

Personally I've become quite religious about 30 and 40 limits, and have learnt to deal with the mums in 4x4's and old blokes in big beemers who sit on my back bumper. When I see the white circle and black line I'm off, and woe-betide anyone who wants to potter along at 38.

If the powers that be want people to drive by the numbers and not the conditions then that's fine by me.

Just to add to this, but in 30mph, 40mph and 50mph limits I will stick to the speed limit religously. On derestricted roads tbh, it's rare that I exceed the limit anyway unless I'm overtaking.

I take the attitude that speed limits are there for a reason, contrary to what the general public say, but as someone who knows the ins and outs of why speed limits are imposed, they are there for a good reason.

And no I'm not going to argue this with anyone who is in ignorance of the facts.

Rant over.:D
