VRS Front ARB 22mm or 25mm ?

Featured Replies

I am a little confused! Initial indications show that I need a new ARB. Although I need to jack the car up and confirm, the knocking, rattling, wobbling, etc. coming from the front is kind of pointing to this (confirmation ??). My confusion is regarding the size of the ARB. Looking on Awesome GTI's site, they have a 22mm one and a 25mm one. Do I need to know what size I have and get the same one, or is it simply that the 25mm one is a direct replacement and is just a harder ride? If this is the case, which would be the preferred for mostly normal driving with the occasional fun bit ;)

Cheers

Replace with a standard item (19mm) and stick a rear ARB on, (eibach or neuspeed) this will make the world of difference!!!!

The stiffer you go in the front, the more it will want to understeer.

Found the knocking and wobbling problem at last :mad:

Looks expensive!! I jacked the front of the car up and heard the knocking as soon as I started to turn the wheel (f/o/s). Took the wheel off and checked the bushes, they were fine. Checked the outer CV joint - looked fine. Checked the inner CV joint - holy cr@p. I have about 2 inches of rotational play between the shaft and the gearbox hub thing  And it sound like a beer barrel full of old spanners when I turn it all !

I have booked it in for Monday morning with my mechanic and will await the large bill :(

Is this normal ?????????????????? VRS MK1 Jabba'd to 225BHP with 45K on the clock.

Car now sorted

Wallet now lighter :thumbdwn:

All of my symptoms cured in one foul swoop (apart from the squeaking). I had wobbling when accelerating, knocking when pulling away and slowing down, knocking when turning corners, clunky gear changes, and jerky jumping when on/off the loud peddle. All this was down to a faulty driveshaft. It would appear that at some time, I must have surged to much power through the driveshafts when cornering, and bent one (if that's possible?). This caused the wobbling (which started a while ago). Over time, this simply shook the shaft and the joints to pieces. I had also purchased a dogbone bush (Powerflex) and had that replaced. He gave me the old one back to show me how bad it was. Everything feels solid and tight now.

Re: The squeak - What could that be? It sounds like its coming from the front nearside, and ties in with perhaps being suspention related?

I just ordered an outer cv as thread wasn't safe enough to put back on.

thought it was just me being unlucky but talking to a few garages seams its not to uncommon for the higher powered tds and 20v to take out cvs once in awhile.
