Has anyone fitted one of the £20-30 chips you can get on ebay? Are they any good? Do they hurt the car long term? Got a standard fabia vrs with green cotton filter and recarro child seat! regards.steve.:eek:

You'll get cheap bang for buck, rough idle, a little more smoke and a little more power.

All in all an ok mod but probably not a long term solution.

No a chip as such as it does nothing to the ECU other than fudge fuel temp signals.

There are several options for remaps. Key is to do your research beforehand.

Better off with a remap or digital tuning box.

I've had a quick go (20 mins) with one of these cheap risister boxes (£30 on ebay) and i didnt notice any difference in performance (some might disagree) so i decided to get a digital dragon tuning box which are good value and you can install and remove in 10 mins, improved bhp/torque & mpg.

I have now sold my dragon box and got a remap which is the best out of the three by far, the dragon box gave similar performance but it didnt feel as good or give as much pull at high revs!

Go for a remap if not that then a dragon box is the next best thing:thumbup:

All the resistors do is fool the engine into over-fuelling by making it think it's running cold all the time.

I can't speak for the Dragons, but Paul K makes me think that they might be a generic interceptor, in which case they'll never match a remap (even on an otherwise standard engine) cos they have to be slightly conservative.

I now have said Dragon box, and it does, as you say, intercept the output from the ECU to the injectors, and plays with the signal to give more fuel at higher revs. Since it's 'downstream' of the ECU, and there's no apparent feedback loop, I'm not anticipating any EM lights like you can get with the Power Resistor of Doom-type "chips", which are actually just resistors, and connect to the input side...

I've given my 2ps on the matter before, and given that no-one else has chipped in to contradict me, I think I'm on the right track...

I think as Paul said above the Dragon box is a good intermediate option.

Rob uses one on the Superb with some good results.
