Octavia TSI

Featured Replies

I saw an Octavia in my local dealer today with a nice TSI badge on the boot. It must be the badging for the new 160PS 1.8 TFSI engine. Upon inspection under the bonnet the engine was also badged as TSI. No sign of a blower under there either :D, just the turbocharger.

Why the TSI badging if it isn't the 1.4 TSI lump? somewhat confusing given VW use the same name for the fangled turbo-supercharged engine.

I presume the Skoda designation is Tubocharged Stratified Injection or something along those lines.

So if you see one, you'll know what it is.

Should be a pretty good alternative to the TDI's and i'll see if I can get a drive in one when the barge is in for a service.

Sounds interesting  , dont spose you managed to sneak a few pics?

Unfortunately not :(

My phone was flat or else I would have got a pic or two.

I was actually at the parts desk spending more money and I saw the red letters and thought "aaah, TDI"

Obviously upon further investigation it became apparant it was in fact the new petrol turbo lump.

Found this pic though.

VAG are now using the TSI badging on any force inducted engine - T'F'SI is now too much of a mouthful apparently! It was in Auto Express a few weeks back.

I guess the VRS unti will follow suit and drop the 'F' from its petrol unit name.

Its the new naming on VAG... Seat and Skoda engined will be named as TSI,

no matter what kind of gasoline turboengine they got. Dont ask me why in

the hell they wanted to change the naming system. Diesel engine naming will

still stay as TDI.

In short, all 1,4tsi/1,8tfsi/2,0tfsi will be known as TSI on atleast Skoda and Seat.
