Help! garage can't find what's wrong?

Featured Replies

Had a mot today booked it in to my local skoda dealers, at the time of booking it i asked them to look in to a knocking/creaking sound coming from the front of the car that had been there for some time now.

So at 10.30am i get a phone call car has passed mot  but we cant find anything that is making a noise! I've already had new arb/bushes, had the centre exhaust done too so that rules them out. What they did note was slight play in n/s/f lower arm bush, and slight leak from o/s/f strut. The knocking nosie is not too loud but it is there and worse when cornering, the creaking happens when i go up my driveway which has a slight slope. The creaking is loud!! Now i don't know what to do to solve the problem? Another garage (Tsr performance) also said about the bush so shall i get these replaced first? Any ideas i'd really like to get the creaking sorted out. Just to note the dealers (irvine's) where very helpful.

Drop links can be an issue iirc...

I have something similiar -and have traced it to front brake calipers, It might just be worth your while taking a look. My noise is low level, but can best be heard when cornering at very low speed (10mph) with light brake application. Hope this helps

The lower arm bushes can make an almighty loud and annoying creaking sound although mine was a rather noticable problem! Check the pic out

If u've been told they're worn you might as well change them now and it should solve your problem - if not its one thing to cross off the list and look elsewhere. Hope you find it!

Thanks mate, yeah think i will get them done may uprate them to superflex one's. Like you say that would be one thing to cross off the list. Anyone using superflex bushes?

I've not heard of superflex bushes - do you mean Powerflex?

I use powerflex bushes and the one in the photo is a powerflex bush. This one popped out after 1 month and was replaced at powerflex's own expense - the replacement bush seems to be staying put. Any difference is hard to find though and I had coilovers fitted at the same time so cant really say if they're worth it or not.

:)I reckon the slightly leaking shock is knocking and the slightly worn bush is creaking.

I have had the Superflex bushes fitted to my VRS for over a year now. No problems at all except a lot of swearing done by the garage when fitting them.

This was brought on by a knackered bush which was causing various clonking noises and subsquntly failed the MOT This however was not that easy to diagnose with the car sitting in the drive as it looked OK to start with and only when the garag had a go at it did it become obvious.
