Skodas are Good Value??

Featured Replies

Do you think Skodas are holding their value well, compared to other similar marques?

This thread was inspired by the fact I had a look at an X-trail today (and a test drive in a 173 tdi one) and the salesman gave me a book figure for my Octy.

Willberpog is 19 months old and cost approx £18K, this was a haggled price from £20.4 book price. He’s also done around 25K miles so is a bit above average, although not as bad as I thought he would be. I was given a rough figure of £11.7K as a P/X which didn’t take into account the mileage or the Sat Nav, Xenons, ESP, Multi-func Wheel and Dension Gateway 300. But overall I expect the mileage to be roughly offset by the extras, if you see what I mean.

So Willberpog is worth around 65% (I think) of his new cost at 19 months old and with high mileage. This seems to be quite good when compared to similar spec Fords and Vauxhalls etc. What do you guys think? And anyone else got any thoughts on Skoda’s depreciation?

That's not too bad a return at all and I suspect the added extras you have won't make that much difference to a px, but will allow them to top up the forecourt price. Just my thoughts, but I think it's difficult to compare with Ford and Vauxhall as most times these are bought at significantly under RRP, especially when a big fleet order is placed, so actual depreciation is probably similar, but the difference between RRP and px values will be a lot bigger.....

i would say they are holding their values. quite a number of times ive had people say they can get similar vw's for what skodas are going for on the used market! it seems they are sometimes holding value better than the v-dubs!

I found that with previous car the residual was good up to three years, eg end of warrenty, then it bombed out.

Looking around at similar marques (not just Ford and Vaux) I am reasonably surprised, but I was given the book price, as to whether the underwritten price is the same remains to be seen. Not sure I want to sell, but it’s an interesting exercise at the very least. And obviously the car is worth a little more in a private sale.

Skoda's do seem to be doing ok now on depreciation. My sisters Felicia seems to have gone up in value over the last 18 months, judging by what they are asking for on Autotrader.

Is that what you'll be shouting when you drive off in your new Nissan?

I was only window shopping………I think.

I need some more new boots anyway (for my feet) so that might put a stop to changing cars.

I was going to say the same as apd007, bought my Felicia for £1200 nearly 2 years ago, and still Felicias on autotrader, with the same reg, and mileage at similar prices! I think this is to do with the boost of the reputation - not that Skoda had a particularly bad one anyway (I have been in Skodas for most of my life! 22years and can't complain)

Making the jump from A Felicia to an Octavia might be fun tho - as most Octavias are still at least £2K+
