'The Niggler'

Featured Replies

Having owned a Fabia 1.4 16v Elegance Estate for six months I have had no end of little problems that aren't quite enough to get rid of her but are enough to have bestowed the car with the above name.

'The Niggler' has also been pinking no matter what fuel I put in the bloody thing, my garage said this is probably due to the EGR valve not working (management light came on diagnosis EGR valve)

So 'The Niggler' has just come back from an oil service, with the dreaded and frankly useless EGR valve having been replaced; result: she is still pinking!!!AAAAAHHHHH

What do I do now, any ideas guy and gals?! It is driving me insane!

Get it on a code reader again now the EGR has been changed.

It really shouldn't be possible for it to pink without leaving a code, as surely it has a knock sensor?

Sell as a trade in if its that bad lol.

lol the thought has occurred many times, but I have spent too much cash now, I am detemined to sort it out!

A sesh on VAG-COM should highlight the issue, as cjb says - pinking could be down to a number of causes...

thanks guys

I know the feeling chippy the first couple of weeks I had numerous things that needed replacing small niggly things and was woried I had picked a bad one.

I really wanted to trade it back in but I was going to loose way to much money on it so was stuck.

However things have calmed down since and had the car 5 months now and at the moment all is good it' just trying

Once you get the gremlins sorted you should be ok.

A read of several post suggests that the EGR fault may well be due to a blockage where the EGR pipe enters the inlet side under the thottle body. Especially if the engine is using oil.

So it may be worth taking the throttle body of and making an inspection in that area.

Sorry to not reply sooner was offline all weekend, I really want to like it as deep down it is not a bad little car, with a nice spec. As you say it is too late to think about trading it in now as I have put too much money into it.

thanks for that, I think the EGR pipe has been cleaned out but I will double check and yes it does use oil
