My sisters just bought a fabia 1.4 comfort on an X plate - she was told the cam belt doesnt need changing because its a chain not a belt - is this correct?

Is it an 8V? If it is the badge on the back should read '1.4 MPI' (under the Fabia script) - this is the engine which has the chain. If the badge reads '1.4 16V' then it is the VW engine with a timing belt that will need replacing at the relevant service intervals.
