Ideal Donor car for my engine? :D

Featured Replies

Hullo - I've found this on ebay... Wondering if it I can pick it up for a couple of Ks, what would it be worth with a 50K mileage TDI engine under it? Are there hurdles to cross with re-registering it as a TDI (v5,etc)

FABIA!!!

Also, what is it REALLY worth in its current nick - It's got a couple of nicks unfortunately. :(

Also, I don't believe the SDI is a PD engine, so what would be needed out my car in terms of pumps, etc to get my engine working in it. :D

And, Paul, this is only a querying thread. You know what I mean. ;) I just may make more money this way?

Personally, I think you may struggle to sell a Classic with a TDi engine - mainly because AFAIK Skoda don't put the TDi engine in the Classic, so anyone browsing an advert who saw this would either be suspicious, or want a serious reduction in value for it not being "as standard"...

I don't think there is any thing to stop you sending the V5 off to the DVLA and getting them to change the model name.

It may only get confusing for the new owner if they try to order parts off of the chassis number and it doesn't tie up.

changing the engine is no probs.. as for resale.. at that value i dont think people would give a toss.

At what value? I'd imagine that Fabia will go at auction for at least a grand more than is currently on bid. So if Jas is looking to make enough money on it to justify the effort, he'll be looking at selling for about

I could fit the comfort trim seats, but there's no getting away from the fact this is a 130K miler bottom of the range Fabia, even with a pucker TDI buzzing under the bonnet and grey seats....

The trouble is the trade value of a 130K miler TDI on its own is only

There probably is and there's no doubt it would be worth somewhere between those values...however, a buyer is going to ask:

1. Why is the trim and engine different from what's normally in a SDi Classic?

2. Where did the trim and engine come from? (note. if your answer includes the word "write-off", it won't work in your favour ;) ).

Most buyers are extremely suspicious about the smallest of inconsistencies, and, though you have an honest face, they might not trust that you're telling the truth. And

Rob, are you sure you're still talking about Jason? ;):P:D

It's all relative... ;)

I heard that goes on a lot in that part of the world... :D

Screw the lot of you! :P

Anyway - just spoken to my mechanically minded mate and he seems very eager to use this car as a donor, compared to other ages of VAG vehicles... :D Things are looking fairly promising.

I've got a 130K miles Octavia Sdi 2000 and reckon I'd struggle to get

Yeah... true - it does unfortunately sound like a taxi, eh?

Seller got back to me this evening saying he'll take

Yeah... true - it does unfortunately sound like a taxi, eh?

I'm guessing there's a reason for that! ;)

Would work in your favour though, as it would be ideal for a taxi driver looking to make a purchase, and they'd be less fussy about changed engines and the like...

Rob.

Howabout this for a donor, Jason?

:) *runs away and hides*

Don't be so sure about a Taxi driver not being fussy about an engine transplant...he'd never get insurance for a "modded" vehicle.

You could always build something up and go banger racing, Jason...

I'm talking about the less reputable taxi drivers... ;)

Rob.

Jason, surely if you do this transplant, you'll still be left with an SDi engine to get rid of? Actually, maybe Jon would take it off your hands for making his a twin-engined beast ;):D
