Coolant level alarm

Featured Replies

i have had the coolant level alarm going off for a while. Turn the engine on sometimes it will pip three times then flash for a few minutes, then go off.

Looking at the reservoir under the bonnet suggests that i am well above minimum. It is anoying that it goes off, but nothing i can't live with if i don't have to worry.

That the alarm is going off suggests two problems, either i don't have enough coolant which i don't think is the problem or a bust sensor.

If i choose to ignore the sensor is it going to cause problems, or should i really consider getting it fixed?

Sensor lives in the bottle, 2 wire probes try scraping them with something as they get a bit furred up. Failing a new bottle is about £10 and 10 mins work to change. And it's simple to do. If you want more info feel free to ask

I had the same problem until the weekend just gone. I gave the two wires a scrape with a clean flat bladed screwdriver. The last two mornings have been pip free!!!

thanks, where are these wires? are they obvious or am i going to have to hunt around to find them.

two metal prongs coming down at about 45 degrees from the connector on the RHS of the bottle as you look at it from the front of the car.

OK, looking at the globe shaped coolant reservoir, from the front in the four o'clock position is a black thing wire attached going into the tank. This is the sensor?

Engine is hot so can't do anything at the moment.

Yes that black thing is the connector to it.

You can't remove it, so you have to wait until it has cooled down then try and clean off the prongs.

There is a good chance that this won't work, but as fatty5000 already mentioned a new bottle with new sensor in it isn't expensive.

Hey there,

just picked up a Skoda Fabia 1.4 Comfort (2001) and i think i've got the same problem, earlier today i went and bought some coolant and a replacement tank thing, just curious at how easy it is to replace?

and also, is it worth draining the coolant, and if so, how do i do it? i'm not amazing with cars but i'm willing to give it a go, just a shame i dont have the haynes manual yet, think thats my next purchase :F

thanks for any help,

rob
