Check eBay, there are usually a few on there for reasonable money. You will need to open them up to swap the transponder chips over... unless you have vag com or want to pay a dealer to programme the new key in.

I take it that it is the flip type key and the ring has come out of the remote control part. This is usually due to the plastic lug breaking off one half of the casing, you may be able to try drilling a small hole through the casing (obviously where it is not going go through any of the internals) and using a cable tie so that you can secure it to your key ring. The batteries are usually a single watch type CR2032. A new remote is about £40 to £50 and you should be able to program it according to the synchronisation procedure in the owners handbook.

I bought a new 3 button fob and used my old key with the transponder and simply programmed the new fob for the central locking using the door lock trick.

Boot release doesnt work as the octy's don't have the mechanism.

ive seen many locksmiths now having key programming services in their shops about various towns now.

Boot lock works on mine off the third button  (2002)

where from?

as an example - Find Remote key fob for VW vehicles 2 & 3 buttons available on eBay within, Volkswagen, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 28-Oct-07 09:15:08 GMT)

Find VW Golf, Passat, Polo, Caddy 2 button flip blade fob on eBay within, Volkswagen, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 25-Nov-07 09:18:39 GMT)

Part number

HLO 1JO 959 753 AH for 3-button or

HLO 1JO 959 753 AG for 2-button.

Both 434Mhz operating frequency.

If you only need to replace the remote button part, then you can seperate the 2 halves of your key, and attach the key blade part (which contains the transponder) to the new remote and as stated already, programme it to the car yourself.

You should pay around £12 for a good secondhand keyfob in my experience.
